If you look back at when they took the house back, even they knew it wasn't because their constituents felt that strongly about their platitudes, but more so that they were disgusted with the Democrats.
Even with that knowledge, they continued to propagate the same globalist agenda that lost the majority for the Democrats.
Even if you buy the gerrymandering premise that the libtards complain about, the data will show that the tides eventually turn.
The past 6 years pretty much show a detailed split in ideology in the Republican party, all of it culminating with President Trump's election.
So forcing the issue while the Republicans had both houses would have only resulted in more bickering.
Now the President has the opportunity to manage the perception of his platitudes more to his liking, where he can use the Democrats as a straw man. Which he can use to his advantage if he chooses to run.
His victories will mean that much more to his base now that the perception will play to his advantage, where as before, fighting with his own party could have turned off people in his base, now fighting the Democrats is a narrative that can embolden his perception within his base.
After all, he doesn't need to cater to libtards, he just has to reignite his base, and what better way to do it than a good vs evil narrative...
