I understand you have a parliamentary system so in theory it is possible for someone to become prime minister even if their party's candidates receive an overall minority of the votes cast, but it isn't very likely. Suppose in one of your elections, one candidate got 3 million votes more than the other. Who would take office? Would 21st century Australia, or any civilized country, continue to live under and even celebrate an electoral system that was designed with the express purpose of giving disproportionate power to slave owners?
