I am guessing in such a scenario the whole world is fucked to the point it really isn't worth worrying about, and everyone has large incentives to ensure that doesn't happen.

We live in scary times. All it takes is a rogue element, a misstep while saber rattling, or some extremists and it's on... or even an error of some sort.
I have no doubt the USA has peeked as a super-power and is on the decline, and this scares me more then anything else.
Believe there is a very high possibility the USA will become more divided as the years go-by and there will be a horrendous civil war.... less something changes drastically.
It's sad, human nature and history is all about killing each other. We keep repeating history, and fail to learn.
Do hope I'm wrong. I dream of world peace nearly everyday.
this is a weird analysis. you conclude that the US is stronger militarily but that China would catch up with the US in the event of a war. not only does this conflict with literally any article on the subject of military might, but it doesn't make logical sense. if china could easily catch up with the US, it already would have.
in any event, the discussion itself is completely pointless. there is a reason that countries with nuclear weapons don't have conventional wars with other nuclear armed countries. can you guess what that is?
I think he is arguing that China could convert civilian manufacturing infrastructure for military purposes and very quickly catch up and overtake US if they chose to. This is what the US did during WWII, and is very reasonable in some alternate universe where it was possible China and the US would get into a full scale conventional war, which would never happen.
No shit, Sherlock.
Ummm, why would they want to have the strongest military in the world?
Not like they invade countries willy-nilly and need it to prop up their interests in foreign lands.... they are more then capable to defend themselves, and they are not right now dependent on hostile activities.
I don't think logic is your strong point, attack China and you will awaken the sleeping giant.
Yeah it's pointless, no way the USA or anyone attacks China in the foreseeable future!
What Country are you from Salty_Aus if you don't mind I ask, because you seem to have a deluded understanding of this stuff....
The chances of a USA China "conventional war" at any point on the reasonable horizon rounds to 0.0%
It doesn't matter is China is "as strong" as the USA because they are already = where it counts. Same with the U.K., France, Israel, India, Pakistan, China, Russia and DPRK.
People think of China as an enemy. The truth is they are our best friends. Most people think the US Economy is a fraud. Truth if he matter is China is 10x worse. The malinvestment in China Infrastructure is on a scale much higher than the mortgage crisis of 2008. Most people think it's the US economy that's going to take down china and they are propping us up. The truth is it's the other way around, or at the very least more in the middle.
Yup, you depend on each other.
All this enemy talk just gives me the shits, it serves no reasonable purpose.
Investing in infrastructure can't be that bad a thing though can it?
The speed in which China are building HUGE infrastructure works is quite amazing, and the USA's infrastructure is crumbling.
Don't think you'll be changing your ways too soon, you're addicted to that cheap Chinese stuff... just like the rest of the world.
We leveraged our debt on China to such an extent that if they decide to get squirmy, we can just not pay it..
That would be the tipping point of an already fragile Economy that's being propped up by artificial growth, and currency manipulation. It's not that hard to tumble China if you think about it, when most there debt is leveraged against 1 super-powerful country, the U.S.
beyond that is Top Secret
Fun fact: depending on the day of the week it may actually be Japan and not China that is the biggest non US holder of debt.
but the US would just do the same thing.....
also actual wars between superpowers would take weeks and not years like during WW2. there would be no time to "catch up" with the US. entire countries would be leveled within a month or within days if either side wanted it, which they would.
yet another reason why this whole conversation is idiotic. (not directed at you, i realize this is salty aus's bizarre thread derail.)
