According to the common English language usage of ‘Latino’, neither of these groups are considered as Latinos. In English, ‘Latino’ is a shortened version of ‘Latino-American’. But Spanairds are considered Hispanics, as their native language is Spanish.

My family is from Spain. Per the video we are Hispanic. I'm more precisely Catalan and Basque mix which both will refuse to call themselves Spanish.

Surprised I haven't seen talk about Michelle Wolf's "performance" at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Most of it was standard "roast" type stuff aimed at Trump and other politicians (mostly Republican), but that's fine. Some of the jokes landed, some were incredibly lame, but it was nothing too out of the ordinary.

Then there was this cringeworthy part:




Some on the right are criticizing Wolf for being "too mean", or stating that she went too far.

I disagree with that far. When you invite a comedian like Wolf to perform, you know what you're getting. You can't complain later that she made jokes at your expense, even if unflattering and mean-spirited.

The problem is that the jokes simply weren't funny. They appear to have been written from a place of hatred (note that Wolf is very liberal), and not from humor. Not sure why the most vitriol was reserved for Sanders, but perhaps it was because she's female, and Wolf sees her as selling out the gender. (If you watch the entire 20-minute performance, you'll see Wolf make several references to women being empowered over the past year.)

Comedy is never best written from a place of extreme anger, because it doesn't end up being funny. Good insult comedy comes from a place of indifference, or at worst, mild disdain. You need to be distant enough from the subject to be willing to see their flaws (and joke about them), but not so angry at them to where your "humor" turns into an unfunny, butthurt insult-fest.

The latter is what occurred here. It's like Wolf was so disgusted with Sanders that she thought she was writing jokes, but instead they just came off as frank, pissed off insults/criticisms.

Look at the last "joke":

"And I'm never really sure what to call Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Is it Sarah Sanders, is it Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is it Cousin Sanders, is it Auntie Huckabee Sanders? Like, what's 'Uncle Tom' but for white women who disappoint other white women?"

Where's the joke here? That you're calling her an Uncle Tom from the gender perspective? How is that a joke? Where is the humor?

Not a single joke about Sarah Sanders landed, which is why the audience, who was quite charitable with laughter during the rest of the Republican-bashing routine, either groaned or remained silent during this entire bit.

All the talk of Michelle Wolf being a "bully" is nonsense, and she doesn't have to apologize, but anyone trying to claim she "killed it" during this bit is simply being a partisan hack.

And while we're being completely honest here, wtf is with Michelle Wolf's delivery? It looks like she was stricken by Bell's Palsy prior to the act, and can only talk out of one side of her mouth. Very distracting to watch (especially if you go watch the entire 20-minute version).

Reminds me of how I couldn't concentrate on Joe Kennedy III's State of the Union response because he had drool on the side of his mouth the entire time.

I thought the Uncle Tom for women joke landed, but otherwise, agree with you. I find Sanders a ridiculous human, but it was too much. You don’t go for appearance jokes on an amateur woman. She’s in the arena, but not a comedian on a Celebrity Roast or anything used to dealing with that shit and dishing it out. She’s a mom. I hate her, so if my guttural reaction is that it went too far, it probably went too far.

The SPY continues to hang above 259 and Apple, Tesla, Amazon and most banks recorded record quarters

By all means there is more to the office then all of the above, but this is a sick run out.
