If he goes hard at Syria, yeah it likely has zero to do with his scandal. If he bombs another abandoned landing strip and accomplishes nothing while talking tough to Russia at a time he’s under incredible scrutiny for his ties to Russia, then it will look like transparent political theater. I don’t think the latter is likely, because it would be so transparent, but you never know with this guy.

But he's also a political animal and if you subtract Trump from the picture, a 2020 contender.

Not a fucking chance he’s done. Smart move. Distance yourself from incoming shit and by the time he rolls back out in 6 years, he’ll be free and clear. I’m picturing an Al Gore beard. Politically, he’s a pup, and has the luxury to gtfo before it all implodes. I expect a year out, he’ll start to go on the record with all the reservations he had about Trump and all his behind the scenes attempts at reigning him in. Maybe sooner based on momentum of the news cycle. If Trump is viewed favorably in 6 years, he’ll continue to play family card.
