I felt this way too until I started actually learning about the KGB.
This sentiment made more sense during the banana republic conflicts in the 80s. But as the Soviet empire started to disintegrate, right around the time of the Afghan invasion, the KGB's methods became more ... polarized. And for an organization that shows its recruits a movie of a living, conscious man being dipped feet first into an iron smelter to demonstrate what happens to those disloyal to the motherland, that's saying something.

A lof of people are saying stuff like this recently, but IMO it just isn't sincere. You know what is actually depressing, living in places like most of Africa, the Middle East, Central America, Mexico, Haiti, etc. That is why people in the millions are uprooting themselves from everything they know and risking their lives to leave these "shitholes" to emigrate to a country where no-one wants them there. I mean, look at how much anti Mexican immigration rhetoric is swirling around right now in the US, and Mexicans are still illegally coming here in the millions. That is how big a shithole Mexico is, that coming to the US is still the much preferable option. No-one is doing this with the US.
