What's in the bill?

The bill refers to sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea, and it substantially reduces the President's power to waive or ease certain sanctions without Congressional approval.

The Russian sanctions will target people and entities that:

-- undermine US cybersecurity on behalf of the Russia government
-- invest certain amounts in Russia's energy export pipelines
-- conduct "significant" transactions with Russian defense and intelligence agencies (though this will come into effect six months from now)
-- commit, or assist in, serious human rights abuses
-- commit acts of "significant" corruption
-- provide support to the Syrian government to acquire arms
-- invest, or facilitate the investment of, $10 million or more in the Russian government's privatization of any state-owned asset in a one-year period that could unfairly benefit government officials or their associates.

The bill lists 12 types of sanctions that can be imposed and obliges the President to use at least five in many cases against those affected. They can include freezing assets, such as property, revoking US visas and banning exports from the United States to those sanctioned.

So the U.S. will now go after Exxon Mobil and major donors to the Clinton Foundation?

The Atlantic reports that Rich Higgins, a former Pentagon official who served in the NSC’s strategic-planning office as a director for strategic planning, was ousted on July 21 over a memo he wrote that embraced wild conspiracy theories to explain the difficulties that Trump was experiencing trying to get his policy agenda passed.

“Higgins’s memo describes supposed domestic and international threats to Trump’s presidency, including globalists, bankers, the ‘deep state,’ and Islamists,” The Atlantic writes. “The memo characterizes the Russia story as a plot to sabotage Trump’s nationalist agenda. It asserts that globalists and Islamists are seeking to destroy America.”

Among other things, the memo alleges that “the left is aligned with Islamist organizations at local, national and international levels,” and that all President Trump’s enemies are engaging in what amounts to a “Maoist insurgency” against his administration.

“Maoist methodologies are described as synchronized violent and non-violent actions,” he wrote. “This approach envisions the direct use of non-violent operations arts and tactics as elements of combat power In Maoist insurgencies, the formation of a counter-state is essential to seizing state power. Functioning as a hostile compete state acting within an existing state, it has an alternate infrastructure.”

I'm not gonna think much of this even if in the book his sister's name is Ivanka and Don wore a red "Make a pair of ducks great again" hat. I'm not gonna give all that much thought to this...

But what do you feel was debunked in this article? Like just a couple sentences about what similarities were lied about or exaggerated I would very much appreciate it. I honestly don't want to read about this but I'd like your or anyone that agrees with him to write anything.
