tl;dr: gender reassignment should be undertaken by people choosing to pursue it from a place of mental well being and stability, but we are telling people who crave mental well being and stability that gender reassignment can solve their problems. thats fucking disgraceful.

so yeah until we de-stigmatize the assertion that carving up your body and pumping it full of life-changing hormones should be an end not a mean, a lot of legitimately unbalanced people are going to end up in the queue.

Don't know about USA but in Canada there is extensive therapy prior to operation to deal with issues you mention. In fact it's required.

This isn't the issue. Grown people will do what they want. If you are not breaking any laws you are not supposed to be discriminated against. Not accepting someone because they are different to you or because you feel they should handle their gender identity in a different fashion should not give anyone the right to exclude them from anything, especially serving in the military.
