Was curious about this myself so I did a little reading. It appears that BC only started allowing wine to be sold in grocery stores in 2015. It appears that until that time, wine was sold in a store within a store type situation. My grocery store has something similar without the trade protectionism, in that it has a state liquor store within the grocery store with a separate checkout. Wine and beer is sold on shelves within the store, while hard liquor and such is sold in the store within the store. BC sounds similar from reading, the distinction is that US wines can only be sold in the store within the store, while BC wines can be sold both on shelves and in the other.

That’s certainly unfair and protectionist, but I’m more curious as to what constitutes a grocery store in BC. Like, do small convenience stores have the ability to sell wine? I assume they don’t have the capacity to house a store within a store, thus completely shutting out foreign wine companies if they allow wine to be sold at all in such establishments. That strikes me as even a bigger deal if they allow wine to be sold at all in those type stores. We need a local for that.

I don’t know if we have any BC wine drinkers here so I figured I’d take a look at it.

of all the criticism verminaard gives the liberal media, what was done on fox may be the worst case of deliberate misinformation i have ever seen. notice the nonstop clips of the eagles on their knees, implying they were protesting the national anthem

of course, NOT ONE eagle knelt in protest of the national anthem or even stayed in the locker room IN THE ENTIRE YEAR

Yeah. Fox News coverage of this is LOL. It is pretty LOL all around from the players, owners, Trump, liberal media, Fox News, fans, etc. etc.

Last year I seriously considered just saying F it and not watching any football, which is pretty massive statement for me because I literally watch football 40 hours/week between college and pros, and gamble a lot while watching it too. I ultimately didn't, but I am leaning the same way again.

I just don't need all this fake political bullshit. I have no ill will towards anyone. I just think the players are absolute fools and being duped by the media and the bankrupt liberal political apparatus into a protest of nothing, but the Fox News watching crowd isn't much better. I am just gonna sit this one out I am thinking right now. If nothing else my wife will appreciate me not being so obsessed with watching football for 5 months straight, and I will probably save a lot of $$ also by not gambling.

Initially all booze was sold through government liquor stores, then private beer and wines stores were allowed and now private liquor stores selling everything are allowed by license. Never heard of any restriction of American wines in any of them

Pretty much every single country is more protectionist than the US. The problem is that most people have been conditioned that this is normal, so all the other countries are indignant when Trump proposes some balance in this department. It is kinda like the racism con game. Every other race is more racist than white people (and it isn't even close) but we have been sold a bag of rotten goods for so long that this is acceptable and normal, that noone can even wrap their heads around a suggestion that maybe other ethnicities should tone down the anti-white racism.

The Obama administration secretly sought to give Iran access — albeit briefly — to the U.S. financial system by sidestepping sanctions kept in place after the 2015 nuclear deal, despite repeatedly telling Congress and the public it had no plans to do so.

Guessing there was just confusion about where those restrictions were. There are none at liquor stores. And in grocery stores only certified wine made in BC is allowed.

From that article we can pick up that there are now 27 grocery stores with a license to sell wine. In other words California wine producers have lost several dollars because of this. Apparently there are about 5 million people in BC and they might have more than 27 grocery stores.

I think Canada is still the biggest importer of American wine so it's kinda questionable to make a big deal about 27 stores.

I'll be jiggered. Out of the loop am I and I like wine and grocery stores. Don't live in the big city and have cut the cable to local news so there ya go. I can see what the fuss is about. NAFTA allowed for specialty shops to sell BC wines only and someone thought that would fly in a more conventional retail experience. Stupid thinking, like no on would notice. Don't like the wine in grocery stores idea to begin with but that's beside the point.

Walmart sells groceries, I guess that means I be able to fill up there soon.
