Overall, it shows how much Tram Trump was engaging in a full court press to get Zelensky to essentially manufacture a bogus investigation of Biden. For example, the aide recalls how Rudy Giuliani mentioned to him in one of the preliminary meetings that Zelensky’s government was loaded with “enemies of America”. This can only be interpreted as a veiled threat that Trump would cut off the aid if that “investigation” didn’t produce tangible results to use against Biden. A very scary situation for Ukraine’s new government.

something caught my eye this evening... 12.5% of republicans support impeachment currently. im wondering... how many of those republicans sat out the 2016 election, do you think?
i wish that was a data branch in the survey.. i imagine that subtracting 12.5% of the republican votes from the 2016 election would have resulted in a decisive loss... but without knowing how many of those were 'never trumpers' who snoozed out the whole election, its hard to say what sort of impact their absence would have in 2020.
whats far less difficult to put a pin on is how there could not have been a better time for a CIA analyst to have this percolate into the national dialog; even if this goes full nothingburger in the senate, dragging this out so until spring would be a master stroke (hence mitch going full pants-pissing over wanting the impeachment trial done NOW). functional adult republicans are going to be burnt out on this shit show and ready for something stable and sane, perhaps even under the aegis of a centerist dem come november. maybe not to the point where they would vote for one, but perhaps enough for them to hard pass on participating in the circus of dumb this election cycle.
