Can you tell me where we can find documentation of the change of how long you keep the status? I would be surprised if they would take away someone's Diamond or Seven Stars status in January 2020 if they earned it on December 31, 2019! Perhaps you were told wrong about this?

I know about the Diamond Elite / Diamond Plus thing. However, this is actually a small upgrade, as the $600 airfare to Vegas thing at Diamond Elite didn't exist at all in 2019 (though it is worse than the similar Diamond Asprations a few years ago).

Regarding the good machines being more than $10 per tier credit, I know they've done that to most in the Vegas market, but I believe these decisions are market-specific, and many markets haven't done this yet.

Anyway, let me know anything you find out or can link me to. Thanks.
Regarding renewals see here. If you earn your status this year, you're good through Jan 2021. In future years, you're on a yearly cycle to requalify.

Last month in AC I saw full pay machines go up as high as 50$ coin-in per TC - Hopefully this doesn't spread to the more local properties before January so I can requalify for Diamond. If not, I'll have to bid farewell to CET.
    Thanks for the link.

It seems you must have misread it. I saw this notice awhile ago, and it was simply letting people know that the Total Rewards website was going to finally be listing an accurate expiration date. Up until September 2019, it erroneously listed your tier expiring the upcoming January 31, even if your true expiration was to be a year later.

The rest of the notice was simply reiterating the longstanding tier policy.

    Here is the relevant portion:

How do I continue to earn Tier Status?

The Tier Credits you earn this calendar year (January 1 – December 31, 2019) will still to count toward your Tier Status for this year and next year, expiring January 31, 2021. You need to continue earning enough Tier Credits each calendar year to maintain your Tier Status for the following year: 5,000 Tier Credits for Platinum, 15,000 Tier Credits for Diamond, and 150,000 Tier Credits to remain eligible for Seven Stars status. You are encouraged to earn the necessary thresholds each calendar year to extend your status the following year so there is no lapse in your benefits.
    Notice the part I bolded.

It's saying that, if you earned the amount for the tier this year, you will have it "the following year", as well. Just like before.

The last line, "You are encouraged to earn the necessary thresholds each calendar year to extend your status the following year so there is no lapse in your benefits" is just there to be intentionally confusing, so people don't do the "earn every 2 years" trick. But if you read it carefully, it's saying that you shouldn't under-earn in a particular year, or otherwise your status will lapse the next year. But that's always been the case.

Therefore, if you earn Diamond in 2020, it will remain Diamond for all of 2021, and will expire on 1/31/22 if you don't re-earn Diamond in 2021. There has been no change.

    Harrah's used to be great.

However, I'm hearing rumors that they downgraded some or all of their best video poker machines.

Try Harrah’s Reno. Triple rewards credits on video poker on Thursdays. Won’t help your tier score, but if you go busto, you’ll at least have enough rewards credits to get something to eat afterwards!

    https://www.caesars.com/harrahs-reno...r#.Xfj-VMqIahA

Finally hit 25,000 tier credits. Now have access to the Laurel lounges. Checked out the one at Harvey’s in Tahoe. Nice bar. Great view. Food is basically cold cuts, etc.

FYI Reno doesn't have good video poker. Might as well go to Tahoe. The triple RCs described above doesn't make up for the bad paytables. At best, each extra RC could be said to increase house edge by 0.1%. So in some cases, even a 10x RC multiplier wouldn't make up for it.

Anyway, I have received confirmation that the 50-play 9/6 Jacks or Better still exists at Harrah's Tahoe, and is still $10/tier credit. That's still the best option in all of the western US to earn tier credits.

Hello Dan, this is my first post
I have a few questions regarding this.
I will be in Cherokee on Friday Jan 10, 2020 for about 15hrs.

Do you suggest playing the Deuces Wild (NSUD) at $1, $2, or $5 and do the 5bet
Which comes out to $5, $10, and $25 per bet?

Do you know if they still have this set of video poker machines you are referring to?

I would like to get diamond and possibly seven star ASAP this year.

Do you have any suggestions for me before I go this weekend that might help me get to the Diamond or Seven Star?

I only have about $1200 to take with me this time, but I only live about 1hr and 45min away from Cherokee Casino and plan on going again in a few weeks.

    Thanks,
    Brian

One of them, simply called Harrah's Cherokee, has a number of very good (albeit somewhat high variance) machines to rack up tiers at minimum average loss.

The other one, Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel has no good games, aside from some super-high-limit ones.

Below is a list of games at Harrah's Cherokee. All are located in the "new high limit room" (next to the table games area), unless otherwise indicated.

25-16-10-4-4 Deuces Wild ("Not So Ugly Deuces") $5 per credit, 1-play (99.73% return): Six machines here. Also four others located in the second room on left side of aisle after entering from parking garage escalator. As this will be $25 per hand, expect some variance. Strategy for this game is here.
Average loss getting to Diamond: $135
Average loss getting to Seven Stars: $1350

9-6 Bonus Deluxe $5 per credit, 1-play (99.64% return): Same strategy as Double Double Bonus Poker. As this will be $25 per hand, expect some variance.
Average loss getting to Diamond: $180
Average loss getting to Seven Stars: $1800

9-5 White Hot Aces $5 per credit, 1-play (99.57% return): Same strategy as Double Double Bonus Poker. As this will be $25 per hand, expect some variance.
Average loss getting to Diamond: $215
Average loss getting to Seven Stars: $2150

9-6 Jacks or Better $5 per credit, 1-play (99.46% return): Six machines here. Four others located in the middle of the casino, close to the circular beverage station. As this will be $25 per hand, expect some variance.
Average loss getting to Diamond: $230
Average loss getting to Seven Stars: $2300

9-6 Double Double Bonus Aces and Faces, $5 per credit, 1-play (99.46% return): Same strategy as Double Double Bonus Poker. As this will be $25 per hand, expect some variance.
Average loss getting to Diamond: $270
Average loss getting to Seven Stars: $2700

9-6 Double Double Bonus Plus, $5 per credit, 1-play (99.44% return): Same strategy as Double Double Bonus Poker. As this will be $25 per hand, expect some variance.
Average loss getting to Diamond: $280
Average loss getting to Seven Stars: $2800

    Hi Brian,

$1200 is a bit of a thin bankroll for earning Diamond, but of course you can try.

You should attempt to earn at least 2500 tiers on this trip, so you should play the $5 denomination and 5 credits at once.

Make sure you know the proper Deuces Wild strategy, and keep the strategy page I linked up on your phone at all times.

I am not sure if the full pay Deuces game is still there, but make sure you verify the pay table before playing.

Let me know what you find there. Good luck.

    Dan,

If the pay table on the NSUD is not (25-16-10-4-4 for 1 coin) which is (125-80-50-20-20 for 5 coins) do I stay away from it?

If it doesn't have this pay table, what is your suggestion of play on this machine or other machines?

I just want to find the best machine to try and get to Diamond and then Seven Star even if it takes me a few times of going to Cherokee.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Brian, yes, stay away from it if it's not that paytable. Also make sure to check every machine in the high limit area and switch the denomination to $5 before looking, because the $1/$2 denoms are sometimes worse. At Cherokee, apparently only the $5 has the good paytable.

Here's a list of games at Harrah's Cherokee, though I'm not sure how current it is: https://www.vpfree2.com/casino/harrahs-cherokee

Other than the Deuces, the rest are kind of exotic games where you'll have to look up the correct strategy.

You also don't want to take "a few times going to Cherokee", because you want to earn exactly 2500 or 5000 tier points on each day you play. Otherwise you get screwed on the bonus.

Here are the tier bonuses you get:

    1000-2499 points -> 1000 bonus
    2500-4999 points -> 5000 bonus
    5000+ points -> 10000 bonus

So you see, if you earn 2000 points, you'll only get 3000 total. If you earn 2500, you'll get 7500 total. Huge difference!

That's why you should bring more than $1200.

I will play it as you suggest with more bankroll also.

When I get back or while I’m there I will let you know which machines have
are still the same or have changed since your original post.

I was in Tahoe from 12/29-1/2.

The following 9-6 Jacks or Better ($10/tier credit) were found by me in the high limit room:

2 Spin Poker $1/$2/$5/$10, in the center of the room, closest to walkway

    2 50-Play 25c/50c/$1/$2 against the center wall

2 3/5-Play $1/$2 against the far wall near walkway. They're the 2nd and 4th machines out of the bank of 5 (the other three are NOT 9-6 JoB)

2 50-Play 25c/50c/$1/$2 near the high limit cashier area

I personally played four of the above machines.

Update on my Cherokee, NC Harrah’s Trip

As of 1/11/2020 Dan the NSUD machines in High Limit area
are still as you had them in your 1st post.

Note: people will have to play the $5 at 5bets ($25 per hand)
to get the maximum points with the least money used.

Bad news. I was informed that these are $25 per tier credit now.

Can you verify this? That would really suck. It would take you 2.5x longer to earn Diamond.

For a very short time last year they were $25 per tier credit.
They have moved it back to original which is $10 per tier credit.

No one played them when they moved it up to $25, so they dropped it back.

Also, if you play the $2 per bet ($10 total) the pay table is very close to the same as $5 per bet ($25 total)

    Thanks for the info!

I am in the process of updating this thread with more current info. If you go look, I've done a lot already.

When you say a "pay table very close", can you tell me where the differences are at the $2 level?
