18,157 vouchers are held by one-person households — and at least 1,450 of them pay no rent, including a man who lives on the 15th floor of a Loop high-rise where the $2,260-a-month rent is covered by taxpayers.

A single woman is leasing a two-bedroom condominium just north of Trump Tower for $3,000 a month. She pays $248, and taxpayers pay the rest — $2,752.

A woman, her teenage son and a daughter who’s away at college have a two-bedroom condo in a South Loop high-rise with sweeping views of Lake Michigan for $3,020 a month. She pays $143; taxpayers pay $2,877.

At North Harbor Drive near Navy Pier, a woman and two other people live on the 45th floor in a three-bedroom condo where the rent is $3,780. She pays $201; taxpayers pick up the remaining $3,579. Another three-bedroom condo in the same building, on the 37th floor, is leased to a woman and four others who pay no rent, with taxpayers covering the entire $3,770-a-month tab.

The CHA’s most-expensive lease is $4,800 a month. That’s for a five-bedroom home on Ohio Street near Ashland Avenue. A family of nine leases the home from Glenn Kahn, an attorney who used to live there and who collects $283 a month in rent from the family and the remaining $4,517 from taxpayers.

This has been happening in NY forever.

Best part is I know someone who is renting their house in a gated community to their family member under the section 8 plan. So in a sense, he is getting paid to have his father live in a house that he owns lol.

I'd like to know why some people got these sweet deals. specifically, was it mere chance, special circumstance, payoff or corruption of some kind...?

This is fucking amazing. This is not normal. How in the hell is this happening?

I have never heard of Section 8 getting approved for anything remotely like the examples here.

Usually it is middling properties on the very top end of the spectrum. I mean the buildings these people are living in you would need to be a 1%er to qualify just for the rent!! (max rent 25% of income in NYC and most huge cities).

I bet Rahmbo is behind this somehow that fucking crook.

drk didn't you collect government benefits for a good while there a couple years ago? not saying you lose the right to complain about other people sucking on the government's teet as a result, but you gotta admit is kinda funny that you're this worked up about it.

Yes, as someone who destroyed his back at a company function, and still suffers TREMENDOUSLY EVERY FUCKING DAY, to the point where Im in pain just getting out of bed and cant align my spine properly, and have nerves all fucked up and sometimes cant curl 2 lbs with my left arm, have headaches 5 times/week, I took advantage of Unemployment benefits after my injury, WHICH IS SOMETHING I FUCKING PAY INTO. I cashed in my 401K to survive.

I didnt take advantage of ANY OTHER ASSISTANCE like food stamps or any bullshit out of my feelings that I dont deserve it or Im too proud to get it. I feel that there are way more needier people out there.

There are people who bust their ass just to get by, and pay 2000/mo mortgages and have to make terrible sacrifices to survive.

...And I have to fucking sit here and read about a FAMILY of NINE.....NINE FUCKING PEOPLE, assuming its a husband and a wife and SEVEN FUCKING KIDS, where they move into massive house, in a very affluent area, and ARE UNEMPLOYED.....YOU HAVE 7 KIDS AND YOU HAVE NO FUCKING JOBS?!!!!! Maybe you need to re-evaluate your birthing decisions, but taxpayers get to pay her even more money the more kids she pops out, and taxpayers get to pay all their medical bills, and school tuition.

but thanks for bringing my life-altering, crippling injury up. Have a nice day

I like this post a little too much.
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

It ended up being a good deal for Lai. Since June 1, 2013, he’s collected more than $100,000 from the CHA, which administers public housing in Chicago for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The CHA pays him $3,911 a month in federal funds to lease his townhouse to the woman and three others in her household, including a child under the age of 6, records show.

It also has been a good deal for Lai’s tenant. She pays no rent because, CHA officials say, she has no income. The CHA declined to identify her or other voucher clients, though it released the names of landlords.

    lol government

Fitting that this is occurring in Chicago, the king city of corruption in these United States.

You know what, Todd. I NEVER wanted to believe how corrupt this city was. Growing up, I would hear things from adults and wonder how they could call this beautiful city corrupt. I thought to myself, it looks good, there are lots of things to do, everything seems to be working fine.

Then, as I got older, started paying more attention to the media, paid taxes, heard the stories from the cops who deal with the bullshit every day, it started to sink in more. I still didnt want to believe it, but it was making more sense to me.

Then, in the last year, my eyes are open and Im outraged. But, its probably too late. If we dont get Republican leadership in this city FAST, its done. The middle class cant keep dealing with this shit over here, unless they are blind and apathetic to the corruption. I totally get a little bit of nepotism, or getting some contracts here and there to people who donate to campaigns. But the extent that they have gone here, to ensure that the parasites of this city get anything and everything that they want, so that they continue to keep voting these corrupt people to office, is so utterly fucked up that it took me out of a political moratorium (again, hate politics with a passion and usually dont give a shit). I dont even care really what political line a person is (Dem or Repub). I just want something POSITIVE to get done. In this liberal democratic city, we fail again and again and again. Crime wins.

Varys, I tried to go easy on the caps lock. Not sure if it has the "OOMPH" I was looking for, but if it is less annoying, I'll work on it

Detroit learned all of its corruption lessons from Chicago.

Have you been paying attention at all? The Republican party is openly trying to eliminate the middle class. They advocate a small wealthy(1%) ruling class and an entire population of slave labor(99%). That's why The Donald and all other Republicans want to eliminate or lower the minimum wage. If the minimum wage was $15 an hour Tyrone would get a fuckin job until you figure that out, deal with it.

I love when people bust out the "Have you NOT been paying any attention" posts.

It should be obvious, based on the amount of political posts I have been making lately, that I have paid some attention, but apparently, based on YOUR knowledge, I either know nothing compared to you, or you know something special that none of us peons are able to know.

Instead of that rhetoric, you could always state something along the lines of:

Hey, DRK, here is some info on .........

    its more peaceful
