    Death Valley wildflower superbloom

So I've decided to head to Death Valley to see the so-called "superbloom" at Death Valley, CA.

For those of you that don't know, Death Valley is one of the hottest and driest places on earth. Its 134 degree record high is the hottest verified temperature recorded on earth, and it averages only a little more than an inch of rain per year.

In October 2015, a fluke 3 inches of rain fell, causing a rare wildflower outburst in February.

Death Valley is 123 miles from Las Vegas, which is also the closest city of any consequence to it.

I've decided to make the trek out there in a few days, also because Benjamin has never been there since he as a tiny baby, and there's other cool things there, including the lowest point in North America (-286 feet).

Has anyone been there since the superbloom started?

I heard it has "moved north and to higher elevations" to some degree. Hopefully I'm not too late.

That looks dope. Like an acid trip.

If you do experience something like that you should record it and share it with us.

I went to the Hoover Dam when I was in Vegas and it was a waste of time.

I have to disagree. Hoover Dam was cool and definitely something you should do once.

Good luck scenery hunting! And if you find yourself near Tucson, AZ about this time of year, and the weather cooperates (losts of rain), you might be lucky enough to see something like this at Lost Dutchman State Park. I lived near there in the 80s, and got to see them in bloom one year.

Superbloom appears to be aptly named. Definitely looks worth the trip.

Not trolling but really, what person reading this site doesn't know this?

People east of the Mississippi often don't know much about stuff out west.

A few years ago, I had an east coast friend tell me, "When we come out to Vegas in July, we're going to make a side trip to Death Valley. I heard it's interesting."

When I asked if they were okay with temperatures as high as 130 degrees (and often over 120), they were shocked and said they had no idea, and assumed it was approximately the same as Vegas. They canceled the side trip.

The New Yorker magazine cover from 1976 nailed it. We definitely have an east coast bias here.
