    Horse Bets

Working on a new horse betting system.

First time is today, thought I would give everyone a sweat.

Most likely will be a massive fail, but we will see.

I will add races below as I get my bets in and we will keep track.

Everything today will be pretty much at minimums since this is a new strategy.

    Aqueduct Race 8

    $.5 Tri Box - 1,2,5,7 = $12
    $.10 Super - 7/1,2,5/1,2,5/All = $3.60

    Tampa Bay Race 7

    $1 EB - 3,6,8 = $6

    Tampa Bay Race 9

    $1 EB - 1,6,12 = $6

    Gulfstream Park Race 10

    $1 EB - 2,3,7 = $6
    $.50 Tri Box - 2,3,7 = $3

    Oaklawn Park Race 7

    $.50 Tri Box - 1/4/8/10 = $12

    Penn National Race 2

    $1 EB - 3,4,7 = $6

    Santa Anita Race 6

    $1EB - 1,7,9 = $6
    $1 Tri 7/1,9/All = $14

I hope you are aware that the house edge in horse racing is at least 15%, right?

You wonder why people give you a hard time...jesus

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that yes ABrown knows what the track takeout is.

GL with your system experiment. Some people do beat the ponies but of course it is very tough.

We won another $16.50 at Santa Anita on the Exacta Box.

    Almost hit the Tri

The Penn Race one of our horses scratched out meaning we got a $4 refund

So total bet yesterday was $74.60

    Total Won - $59.37

    Whomp Whomp on Day 1

Although none of the middling to long shots won so probably not overall all that bad.

Yup I am more than aware.

My family has been involved in horse racing for over 25 years.

The last 20 or so we have owned anywhere from 2-10 horses at once.

This strategy is attempting to exploit scenarios where morning line favorites are weak, since sort of like major sporting events favorites get over bet in horse racing. It also combines in none maidens and fields with eight or more horses. Basically, we are trying to identify potential big payoffs versus weak favorites.

To give you some kind of idea, yesterday one of my 8-1 morning line went off 3-1 as the favorite. It was the sixth choice in the morning line, the line maker did a shitty job, but the public figured out the race but that doesn't always happen. We are trying to exploit an edge that may exist.

Looking back on yesterday for example.

    I bet 7 races

    Won 4
1 is a throwaway since 66% of my bets scratched
    Lost 2

Of those two I barley lost one, and the other I totally botched the handicapping on.

This is system is basically looking to hunt 8-1 to 30-1 horses who could potentially spike the top of the ticket.

Post your strategy. My mom goes to Tampa Bay Downs every Saturday and she could use the help.

    Saturday 3/5

    Aqueduct Race 4

    $.50 Tri - 2,3,5,6 = $12

    Aqueduct Race 9

    $1EB - 1,4,6 = $6

    Aqueduct Race 10

    $1EB - 2,3,6 = $6

    Gulfstream Park Race 1

    $1EB - 2,5,6 = $6

    Santa Anita Race 2

    $1 EB - 6,8,9 = $6

    Santa Anita Race 9

    $1EB - 4,8,9

    Oaklawn Race 5

    $1 EB - 1,2,5 = $6

Because we like two races with back to back long shots, adding in a few additional bets at Aqueduct that aren't really part of the system that I had in mind but we will see how it works.

    Aqueduct $200k Pick 4 Races 7-10

    Race 7 - 3,4,5,7
    Race 8 - 4,5,2
    Race 9 - 1,6
    Race 10 - 2,6

    Double Races 9 and 10

    Race 9 - 1,6
    Race 10 - 2,3,6

I grew up around a bunch of "horse people" and it is OBV that you are using my late grandmas system of E-boxing all the long shots.

She never talked about her losers, but the whole world heard about her winners. She was such a fun lady.

    That's not it at all.

Most of these bets are one or two long shots plus some chalk.

Also using TimeformUS, which theoretically should be an edge as well.

You missed the sarcasm. My post was more about my crazy g-ma than about your system. Either way thank you for making me smile

Horse people are the best. There is a guy at my local track that always bets on the 1 horse and screams "Come on red!" At the top of his lungs.

Which annoys the shit out of everyone at the track but makes me laugh because he does it for four or five hours straight, seven days a week.

LOL, sounds like my uncle. He would stand at the rail and scream until he couldn't talk

Sometimes people need to reminded of the obvious.

On a side note: Back in AC, I used to play poker pretty regularly with a former stable hand at a Maryland race track. He told me how befriending the jockeys helped him get tips about which races were rigged. He was able to be the house edge over time until he had to quit the job because of an injury. After that, he tried to beat it betting OTC, but gave up after awhile after losing too much. And this was a guy who had worked around horses and the track for about 20 years. He might have just been a degen, but the overriding lesson is that if you don't know the fix, or own a horse running in the race, you're better off playing "the field" at a roulette table.
