They had a minor controversy he was riding behind a van with the doors open. Debated whether he was drafting etc.
I guess now they're going to have a different vehicle as his support vehicle.

Police escort makes a difference...

It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?
He's cheating if he didn't make it clear he was going to draft off a vehicle. strange choice of bike imo.
I've done quite a bit of cycling, the wind is the main factor.
Not to worry, Bill Perkins will make back all the money he loses in this bet in the GPL on the Berlin Bears...

BTW, did anyone see how incoherent Bilzerian was in one of the last Perkins Periscope videos (he didn't know which was was up).

I was pretty sure there was something about "drafting" mentioned early on when they were forming the bet.
Did he use that van the entire first day?
Did that van leave the starting line looking like that (doors open wide, spoiler up top), or did they change that later?
Gooo Dan Gooo!
Someone give a cliffs notes update? He going to do it?
He has a police escort, which, I am going to have to call and get, next time I want to take my bike a mile to the grocery store. I had no idea the public was allowed to utilize taxpayer dollars for that.
He switched the path from LA to Vegas, which does play a role in the amount of coasting vs steep climbs. He was coasting yesterday for long stretches going at least 35 mph.
He was practicing on a normal bike, but switched to a recumbant bike for the race.
He has been drafting behind a van, which has its rear doors wide open and out to the side, preventing the wind from hitting him. The van also has a spoiler mounted on the top near the rear to provide further wind blockage.
He probably has 100 miles left to go and will likely make it
seems very sketchy and angle shooty. Dont know if the drafting issue was covered or not pre-bet, but frankly, I would be surprised if it wasnt.
for a guy who is all about cops, how do you not know that you can basically rent the police for just about anything? I can't say for sure since I know none of those people, but it sure seems obvious to me that those guys paid for a police escort.
If you are willing to pay whatever the hourly rate is for police details, you too can rent a cop for your bike ride to the grocery store. You'll probably have to pay at least 4 hours minimum, tho, and some notice would be required as well.
Custom drafting machine.
doors open
rubber mats to stop the wind
roof spoiler
roof spoiler wings
and a welded metal skirt below the doors and bumper
Very well played
Cops are always used on movie sets to control traffic and crowds and are paid in full by the movie companies. No free stuff ever, if my shop alarm goes off and the cops attend I will get a bill for there valiant efforts. But if they see you doing a rolling stop at a controlled intersection you get free ticket at least $150
I hope he makes it, and as far as the drafting is concerned good for him, he woldent do it if it wasent allowed.
all hail Hydra

not gonna lie...i hated bilzerian before this bet thing, but damn if he isn't my hero now. just brilliant.
lol apparently it's already over and solomon is throwing a fit about the van and refusing to pay up. also, they took the van away and he did the last 100 miles without it (I guess in hopes of appeasing the people he was betting with). while the van obv made it easier, it's pretty clear he woulda made it without the drafting, especially when you consider the high tech bike he was riding.
