This kind of camping in one or the other party is because our election regime strongly fosters a duopoly. Essentially, people stick to one or the other party depending upon which issue is most important to them.

I think you missed the key point of my reply, which I have bolded. Because parliamentary democracies, in which multiple parties vie for an electoral majority, or willing to form a majority coalition with other parties to form a government are less prone to a duopoly completely dominating politics. For example, in the US since 2000, the Dems and the GOP have locked up the general election debates to include only their candidates.

The Iowa Caucus is a complete fail. Many tried to allow absentee ballots to allow service members to vote on their Commander in Chief. Iowa once again said no. As a former member of the military, I find it offensive that a state intentionally constructs a primary system that insures military member serving their country are excluded from voting.

Others excluded include anyone working during the 7pm-9pm window. Firemen, police officers, doctors, just to name a few. Now the state only gets 5-10% turnout for these silly caucuses. Hardly a true representation of the Iowa electorate anyway, but to insure many solid citizens of that state will not be able to vote is a complete fail imo.

Trump should have gone to last debate. His veterans fund raiser was nice, but nobody should change their vote because of that, while many possible voters in Iowa may few it as a snub, while military members can't vote anyway, due to the corn picker rules.

How would an absentee ballot ever work with a caucus? I do support your objection to the caucus process. Does the rest of the world really appreciate all the edges that are played in the US process? Democracy, lol.

I just have this gut feel Nate Silver and the rest have not focused enough on the actual caucus process and how this plays into a charismatic and polarizing candidate's hand.

Cruz is going south and fast. He was terrible in the debate and I would not be surprised if Rubio finished second in Iowa.

If Trump wins Iowa he will sweep the South. The only chance Rubio or Cruz has is to hang on and make their stand in Texas and later California. Each would have a decent chance to win those states, but they have to hang on a finish second consistently.

Make no doubt about it, in the SEC states Trump is going to sweep, unless he gets embarrassed in Iowa and I doubt that will happen.

Also, with 84% reporting, Google showing Sanders having won 1 more delegate than Hillary (19 v 18) even though she has a very slight majority (less than 1%).

--> IMO, Druff is probably correct. Hillary ignored Sanders too long and he was able to build enough momentum to seriously challenge her. At least among the more politically active within the party.
