Uber Tipping

One of the great things about Uber has always been that you don't need cash. Cars cleaner than cabs. Drivers much nicer than cabs. The technology works. Etc.

I was just reading an angry rant by an ex uber driver complaining about how people don't tip him. The guy seemed a bit nuts. But it got me thinking. Do uber drivers expect a tip? Who doesn't like extra money I am sure. But really I love not dealing with cash and having to figure out a tip when dealing with uber. But am I just stiffing people?

The 15% tip is included in the total.

Would like clarification on this too because Uber drivers i get always seem surprised on receiving their tip.

Not having 15% tip is included into the fare. That isn't even legal.

I'm just guessing that your uber driver was at one time a cab driver, which I've always tipped before using uber. Buttttt according to the site you shouldn't be tipping but that never stopped anyone..

Yelp had a pretty sizable thread in my area discussing tipping Uber and Lyft drivers, which included current Uber drivers chiming in. The consensus was pretty much that if it's an Uber Black or any of the upper end rides, the fares are high enough to justify not tipping, but they'll take it regardless. However the regular car Ubers and Lyft, which many drivers drive for both, 15%-20% is common in the D. My guess this varies from territory to territory. These drivers get screwed though sometimes because Uber will put on sales and cheapen rates to get people to use them and it comes out of the driver.

I have been using left instead of uber just so I can tip them a couple bucks, makes it so much easier. Also left has been 30% off the last few weeks. I took a lyft from twin river, the casino in rhose island, to Boston last week, Grand total of $50ish to go 49 or so miles. Best ride I ever paid for
