It seems unlikely that they're going to allow the shopping malls to be such a big and obvious loophole. It's more convenient as it is to park at Mandalay Place if you're just going to the MB casino.
I read that in one of the news articles about Crystals, but have to agree with you that any loopholes are not likely to last as the other businesses will react to it. When nearby hotels like Tropicana get cheapskates from MGM filling the lot they may switch to free only with 4 hour validation or something and the south strip starts turning into another downtown.

I saw an article today that said it could even Bruise the stock.

Since there is no direct flight from my hometown, I always drive to Vegas (4 hours). Overall, I prefer the MGM's strip properties over Ceasars, but there is no fucking way I will pay for parking! I would stay at Shady Sheldon's place and take a cab to Belaggio before I will give MGM $10 a day for an "enhanced parking experience". In the future I will probably just stay at Caesars Palace when the price isn't outrageous and look for deals at the other hotels.

I'd hate to see all Caesars properties, or any properties in Las Vegas, start charging for parking. I always rent a car when I go to the WSOP. I usually go without my wife, so I stay in some cheap joint for the 3 weeks I'm in town. On past trips I've stayed at Binion's, Terrible's, Fitzgeralds, The D, The Quad, and most recently, Silverton. Room rates at all of these places have gone up, and most now charge a resort fee. I like to drive when I'm in town and may visit 3-5 properties in a day, whether to play poker, dine, or see the sights. Having to fork over $10 at every casino lot would put an end to that.

I miss the days of $19 rooms, $7.99 Prime Rib buffets, and the $1.99 "Pound-O-Pig" breakfast at the Plaza. The best buffet I ever had was at the Frontier during the culinary workers strike. For $3.99 they had shrimp, prime rib, and rack of lamb for lunch! Amazing. Those days are in the rear view mirror for sure.

This is my first post. I've been listening to the radio show for about 5 weeks. Great job. Very entertaining and informative. :-)

SP Plus Corp. will handle paid parking at all non-union MGM Resorts International properties, including Mandalay Bay, Delano, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, Vdara, Aria, Bellagio, The Mirage and MGM Grand, the company said.

    And so it begins...

Reserved Event Parking for April 6th will be available for $10 in advance. Prices will increase the day of show.

Valet options will be available on event nights at New York-New York and Monte Carlo for $30.

Yes, they want you to pay for parking in advance.

It will also suck to work as a valet attendant now. I guess they will go from making around $80K to $100K a year down to some type of minimum wage.

knew it is was coming but just got the official email-- June 6

    greedy Bastards

    entire email:

MGM Resorts International is taking steps to implement a $90 million parking strategy to expand parking availability, implement technology upgrades and reduce the hassle and frustration resulting from outdated and inefficient facilities.

In order to fund these investments—and the ongoing maintenance and capital improvements of our parking facilities—we will be instituting fees for self- and valet parking. Fees will begin to roll out at our Las Vegas hotels on June 6, 2016. These rates remain significantly below those of other highly popular tourism destinations.

As an M life Rewards Member:
    • Once you've achieved Pearl tier status or above, you will receive complimentary self-parking.
    • Once you've achieved Gold tier status or above, you will receive complimentary valet parking.
All parking is subject to availability.

The environment in Las Vegas has changed dramatically in the decades since amenities like low-quality dining, lodging and free parking were offered to attract customers. Growth in tourism and our local population—including many more cars on our local roadways—requires more parking availability, more efficient, modern parking systems and more frequent maintenance and upgrades to our aging facilities—all of which come at significant cost.

We have come to this decision with a great deal of care, particularly knowing we would be breaking with Las Vegas tradition. We are committed to continuing to develop the Las Vegas guest experience and hope that you will recognize the improvements during your next trip to one of our Las Vegas resorts.

Click here for a complete overview of our parking policy.

    Sincerely,

    Jordan Salmon
    Vice President, Loyalty Marketing

Just changed my WSOP reservation from Vdara to the Rio. I'd stay downtown before I give those greedy cocksuckers any money for parking.

I just got back from a week at Aria and also got this email.

Free parking at Pearl level and up and locals until December, will mean that the charge only applies to maybe 20-50% of the cars? That's some good news.

Even though it would be free for me, I am still worried about long lines at the garage exit which seemed to be a single thread. How many idiots will forget their tickets or ask the parking guy questions while we all wait behind them honking?

Also we must have 3 or 4 old cards, pearl, gold, whatever. Get new ones whenever we forget the old, so how do they prevent people from giving extra cards away to their friends?

Who would get stuck paying? First timers driving from other states. Business travelers renting cars. People who barely gamble or gamble mostly at non-MGM properties.

Next year when they start charging locals, the total percentage of paying customers will go up, plus maybe they raise the card level you need to get the free parking and increase the rake.

I hope business drys up enough for them to net lose money, and give up on this stupid idea.

If you can't afford to gamble enough to make pearl you shouldn't be going into a casino or for that matter staying in their hotel.

The comments in that article are LOL:

I have personally made a vow never to go back to an MGM property with this parking fee in place.

I live in Las Vegas and trust me MGM is making a big mistake by forcing locals to pay for valet parking. They wlll lose their shirt on this garbage. MGM and Murren are not thinking straight. Watch the stock of MGM go down by 25% due to lost local patronage, particularly on the weekdays when the place is empty. Time to short the stock.

This may be rather crude , but fuck them. With all the casinos in Vegas if you think I'm going to pay to park in one you're sadly mistaken and your policy has failed miserably. Again fuck them

I'm Mlife Platinum and even I think this is a terrible idea. MGM will soon be joining Caesars Entertainment in bankruptcy.

These people probably said the same thing about resort fees and yet continue to go. I do think they should offer some type of validation if u play enough slots or eat at a high end restaurant.

I had friends from the UK in Vegas last year, and they wanted to go to the Circus Circus. When we walked in, one of them remarked, "this looks like a set for a snuff film"

Was in Vegas again last week rented a car and had a chance to park at Aria, MGM, and Bellagio all free with mlife gold card.

MGM was the best experience as they have those led lights now which indicate where spaces are available and a count in each row and it was easy to get in. You have to take the ticket and get a receipt from a machine.
Bellagio was fine too. The guard let us out before I could put the receipt in the toll booth thing.
Aria was much more of a pain than before (I was just there in May). You enter and get the ticket on a very steep hill and there were multiple cars in front of us, so would have been hard with manual transmission. Entering the Aria the lady asked if I knew they now charge or if I had Nevada license. Leaving they also opened the gate before I put the ticket in most likely they are still letting people slide if they ignored the whole thing.

So it wasn't a big deal but I think they messed up the placement in the Aria and only the MGM was better when you get in.

MGM stock took a swan dive off the upper parking deck these past few days.

Financial engineering exposes them and they BY FAR were the ugliest of the casino stocks ATM.

I hear the race is on to develop a slot machine based on Hillary Clinton. Cause 68 year old women are the slot demographic.

Parking first then a cover charge to enter.

    It's over dude.

Nevada locals scan their ID upon entry, and the machine remembers their license plate on the way out, and just opens the gate.

Pretty cool. You don't even get a ticket if you're a local. It just lets you in, and lets you out.

This will all end in late December, though.

When I saw Brandon at the WSOP, he told me about the new MLife MasterCard. I applied and was automatically upgraded to Pearl status, so my parking is now comped. I feel like a real Vegas insider now! Just thought I would throw that option out there. Of course, you have to have a credit score above 600, it won't help people like Marty.
