Child molester sues state after he gets raped in prison

Kind of an old story (August 2014), but still interesting so I thought I'd post it here.

Charlie Hopkins was arrested in November 2010 for molesting a young female relative. Charlie's father and some other male relative also molested the girl.

Charlie was 20 at the time, and apparently has a low IQ (though not low enough to be considered retarded). He was given 10 years to life in prison.

John Markwell was a sex offender himself, but was very large and intimidating. Markwell was 6'1" and 240 pounds, while Hopkins was only 5'8" and 140.

Markwell had a history of intimidating and beating up other inmates. In fact, he apparently forced his previous cellmate to switch to another cell (not sure how that was done) so he could get Hopkins in his cell instead.

From that point, he basically made Hopkins his bitch, first by offering him protection by writing a letter on his behalf (calling him an "awesome homosexual" -- which appears not to even be true) -- something Hopkins could carry around and show other inmates if they were going to attack him.

deserves a fair chance and has proven himself as he has done with me.
His mother is also my woman, so this-so this woman here is a part

Of course, in return, he was raping Hopkins, including forcing his head down on his penis when anal sex "hurt too much".

Unlike on TV, where prison rape is just expected and accepted, it was taken seriously by the state. Markwell was sentenced to life in prison for it -- partially due to his history.

Now Hopkins is suing the state for the rape he suffered, which is pretty outrageous, given he was in prison in the first place for molesting a child.

States who fail to immediately address accusations and actual incidents can face major issues with the Feds up to and include Federal Civil Rights charges filed by the DOJ..

I work at the Max Prison Yard in Florence and believe me the shit is taken way seriously. There are the occasional stupid issues like an idiot who swore up and down he was pregnant and had to have been raped (He was and has always been male no tranny no gender changing nothing).

I should clarify Im not a CO I work in Medical at the prison which has been contracted out due to massive class action lawsuit filed against AZ a few years ago.. But I do get to see some serious shit within these walls. If you guys want to see some stuff recently go google fox10phoenix there was a news piece done by local reporter about Central Unit on Florence.. Before I switched positions I used to actually work next to the death house everyday (big ass smokestack coming out of it for the gas chamber which is still present and able to be used plus they squeezed in the needle room). I now work as CB nurse so I get to work all every single emergency on the yard when Im working plus pass meds to a ton of inmates daily. One of the CBs is the stepdown from the mass lockdown Pysch Cell Block (honestly the ugly secret is now all our mentally ill that are bad enough are in prison instead of being in mental institutions I dont know wtf the difference is in the end).

I just think that, if ever prison rape was deserved, it's in this case.

I didn't say that Bitar should have been left untreated if he had a heart attack.

I said that his "heart condition makes him incompatible with jail" claim is a LOL statement by his slick, expensive attorneys (paid for with our money), and that the government should have laughed in his face.

If someone molested Benjamin, and I knew for sure that they were guilty, I would shoot them dead if I knew I could get away with it, and not feel an ounce of guilt for it.

So yeah, rape of a child rapist is an appropriate punishment, even if the state can't sanction it.

Druff, the molester only molested. He didn't violently rape. Are you forgetting the "eye for an eye" thing per the Hebrew Bible. It doesn't mean *at least* the same level of punishment. It means a *comparable* level of punishment.
