For any fans of PRIMUS, they have been doing Willy Wonka themed shows for the past year as Primus and the Chocolate Factory. Lots of vids on Youtube.
Their posters are insanely good.

Am I the only one who thought that the Tim Burton remake was horrible?
It was dark in all the places it shouldn't have been, Johnny Depp's Wonka character reminded me all too much of Michael Jackson, and the songs were boring and hard to understand, as opposed to the original where they were memorable and catchy.
And Wonka got a ridiculous backstory which we did not need.
I usually like Burton's work, but this one was a
BTW, the original movie came out in 1971 and was a mediocre performer. For that reason, Paramount sold its rights to the film in 1977 to Warner Bros for just $500,000 -- a paltry sum even back then.
Warner Bros then properly monetized it, airing it on TV frequently in the late 1970s and '80s, and also bringing it to the home video market. From there it developed a huge following and became a very well known and beloved film.
If you don't recognize the city below when the elevator breaks through the ceiling, there's a reason for that: You're not supposed to. It was filmed in Munich, partially due to the lesser costs, and partially due to the fact that the unfamiliarity of Munich to American audiences would create a sense of mystery and ambiguity regarding where the story takes place.
I happened to be at the exact age to whom the film was targeted when it blanketed TV screens starting in 1977.
I felt the Willy Wonka remake was an exercise in, "Wow, look how awesome we can make the sets look with CGI, and look how eccentric we can make Wonka!"
Totally missed the point of the original, which was as much about cynicism and nonconformity as it was about fantasy.
