ATTENTION FANS OF VIKINGS: OMG *THE LAST KINGDOM*

IT IS ROUGH RUGGED AND RAW.

BBC SHOW. VERY MUCH LIKE VIKINGS. HISTORICALLY ACCURATE (MORE OR LESS) STORY OF THE VIKINGS ATTEMPTED CONQUEST OF ENGLAND.

BASICALLY STARTS OFF WHERE VIKINGS STOPS.

MUCH BETTER PRODUCTION VALUE + PHOTOGRAPHY, ACTING IS A LOT MORE SITUATIONALLY CONVINCING.

    STRONG BUY, GO LONG.

Totally derailing this thread but did anyone catch Larry David playing Bernie Sanders on SNL?

There's no need to bring that show up here. Lets move on.

The timeline is a bit confusing; there is a Earl Ragnar, his son "Young Ragnar", plus some other historic players like King Ecbert.. but Im not sure where this fits into the actual Ragnar tale or if the "actual" Ragnar is in this at all.

I'm assuming (always dangerous) that 'young Ragnar' is the actual Ragnar Lothbrok of legend and that this is simply an enthusiastic reinterpretation of the Ragnar legend, because Ragnar's father is traditionally acknowledged to be Sigurd Randversson.

So is that like the song that they sing in Skyrim about Ragnar the Red?

Probably yes. Who/what "Ragnar" was is one of the great mysteries. We are *reasonably* certain he existed, and we are *positive* that there were endless bards tales spun about his exploits.

But what he actually accomplished while (if?) alive is nearly impossible to be sure of. Complicating things, European history in the 800's was largely recorded in song and in addition to it being impossible to assess the providence of those songs, we are absolutely certain that a great many of them are lost to the ages and exist only in name/theme.

In theory, Cnut was about 150 years or so after this takes place. But really who knows what rules they are following.

So if it's before Cnut, are they directly Post Roman Occupation or somewhere after that?

Paying for BBC? There are laws in the UK? Sounds like minimum wage.

TV is owned by the government. No first amendment type stuff. They tax you to watch TV aaaaaaaaand still have to watch commercials.

Bro, TV license is a scam. I never payed that shit, and they can't do f all about it unless you play into their hands and willingly plead guilty to their extortion.

I believe this takes place circa 860'ish? And Cnut was born around 985 and died in 1035. The Roman occupation ended over 700 years prior, I think.
