    Interesting situation

So here I sit at 2:20 AM a little bit pissed off. Every now and again I'll pull an all nighter and tonight was supposed to be one of those nights. I came home early because I was going to blow a gasket and I just couldn't deal with it. So here is what happened.

I'm playing in a 5-10 Nl $100-$300 (an interesting format, but it works well). At this point in the night most of the stacks have $1,000+ but we have one or two short stacks in the game.

I come back from taking a piss/walk/break and seat 5 is leaving broke and the table breaks into a chair swaping contest. 7 goes to 5, 3 goes to 7 etc etc. The woman in seat 7 decides to move to seat 5 and she has $30 in $5 chips and around $1,200 of $100 chips. I'm in seat 8 and I have $1200 behind. I wake up to As-10s. The woman makes it $35, I call, seat 9 calls with only $65 more behind.

    Flop is Ax-8s-6s

The woman fires $265. She still has a stack of black chips behind. I tank. I have her on A-K or A-Q. She likes to overplay big aces. I remove flating as an option because if I miss she fires big again on the turn in all likelihood, and she may have a set and is over protecting the hand. It's all in or fold. At this point I say I have $35 invested and I don't want to turn this into a $1,200 mistake. It sucked, but I folded. The short stack shove/calls for $65. she flips over A-Q, he flips over 6-?. I flash my hand to hit end of the table as the action was complete. The all in guy says "holy shit I can't believe you folded that for $265." I respond in kind that I didn't want to risk it all on a draw.

Turn 2x - river 10x. So I river top 2, would have dragged the pot.

So the next hand starts up and the guys asks why I'm still here if I'm not going to play that hand. I say because if I miss the turn she is going to fire and I didn't want to get into a $1000 pissing match with a draw, implied odds be dammed. He said "No Man, she was all in". That's when I look over and her stack of black chips was in the process of coming off the table and into her bag.

So I stop the game and ask her what she thinks she is doing and where did the $1000 behind go. She says "oh that was never in play, I took all my chips out to pull out $300... I can't rebuy for more than $300". I say "you can't do that and I lost the pot because of all the chips you had behind." I ask the dealer what's going on here and he basically takes the line that she can only rebuy for $300 and there is no problem. She then lays into me saying "that hand is over stop making a big deal over something that doesn't matter, I wasn't calling her anyway".

I'll stop here and ask for feedback as to what you would do in this situation.

    Weird story.

Are you sure she really added those chips before the hand? Or could she really have had a stack of $1200 and was lying about rebuying?

I would have called the floor about this. It's possible she was angling regarding those extra chips, planning to say they were in her stack if she won, and to claim that she had only rebought $300 if she lost.

You had a right to be pissed. You can't be expected to remember everyone's stack, to where you could "know" that she was just taking out a bunch of chips to rebuy $300 from them.

    A) The woman is super shady here...and considering the unique buy-in rules for the game, this is something that def can be used for an angle. Calling the floor is probably the best solution to get an official ruling.

    B) Did you ask the dealer (and also player, for a read) how much she had in total/behind when she fired the $265? Whenever someone makes a big bet like that, I always ask the dealer if they are all-in, how much they have behind...shit, I'll sometimes stand up if I am in the 1/9 seats and even make them count that shit out. Doesn't matter if I have a decent hand like yours or rags. I find it as a good habit to always try to slow down my decisions and make sure I have all of the information before I make a decision. And also to prevent folks from going south with their stack or any other shenanigans, like in the hand here.

At least there is a positive in this hand: you made the good read and folded!

So to finish the story I held up the game for a bit. I accused the dealer of not announcing all in. He said he did. I said he didn't and asked if he was sure. He said he thinks he did. She jumped and and said of course she was because that's all she could buy in for.

The floor was called. Everyone at the table gave there version of what happened. The floor was just horrified/confused. He said the dealer must have called all in so there is nothing to be done. He reprimanded the woman for having chips on the table that weren't in play and "don't do it again". I said in frustration "so I get fucked, and the dealer didn't say all in nor did she". At that point she fired $30 in chips at me and said take your money let's move on.

At that point it was all in or fold. At this point I took a breath and realized this is someone who open shoved with A-Q and someone's want to play with again. I shipped back the $30 and said its not entirely about the $$, just do me a favor and keep the out of play chips off the table next time. I had racked up already and left. I talked to the floor on the way out and he understood what happened but there was no real other thing he could do except toss her and I told him not to do that.

You should have had him toss her.

This looked like an angle shot to me, and she didn't handle it well by getting nasty with you.

I agree there was nothing you could do at that point to force her to give you any money, but you could have told her that you're going to have her barred for this, unless you two come to an agreement regarding giving you part of the pot. (I guess this could technically be illegal due to anti collusion rules of the house, but it would probably be allowed given the circumstances.)

Anyway, I would have been really pissed.

seems like a good fold. she over bet the pot, and you have three outs if your read is correct. You could hit your outs and still lose the pot.

Did she do anything wrong? well, I think so, but you made a good fold, and a good read. I think you want someone in your game that you think you can beat, and seem to have a good read on.

Stiff that dealer a few times next time you play there, as he seemed like a douche imo

He had the nut flush draw so plenty more than 3 outs.

Daly it sucks that you got angled but it is definitely a spot where I ask them what they have behind. I want to know if they have me covered.

    Good read

I don't think I've ever flopped top pair/nfd and folded flop. Even tho it's kinda obv that she has you out kicked; I still continue here, but maybe I'm just a fish and that's why I don't play as high as you do.

Right, so 12 outs twice assuming she's not overprotecting a set (she's not) so just under 50/50 to win the pot.

I'd call off $265 for a 48%ish percent chance at $700 knowing I'd get both cards. That's a no brainier.

Nah - your line of thinking makes you a better player then I. But sometimes I want to take
On the variance. Sometimes you only have $35 invested and pass till the next time she makes a play like that and you flop the joint.

I get why some woundnt ever fold here.

My honest read is we are talking about a semi-clueless older woman with more money than poker sense. She's easily a net donator to the game. This wasn't a deliberate shoot IMO, more of an act of cluelessness.

I don't want her tossed. I want to see her again so I can clear the air and play with her again.

Long con > Short con.... I hope.

raw deal...but from now on, you have a reason to respond to someone going all in with this: "Let's see your chips pushed into the pot, otherwise it's a check" before you call/fold....

and when they complain, you tell them your story
(long before there was a PFA i had my Grenade & Crossbones avatar at DD)

Yeah, for all of her angling bullshit, I most likely would have shoved anyways.
