    Tokyo, Japan

Going to Tokyo in a few weeks and trying to book a hotel. Any advice as to what part of the city I should stay in? It kind of sucks as I am going by myself, and I have heard very few people speak English. So I am assuming there will be a lot of finger pointing.

Roppongi has the most anglo-friendly resources but its a bit of a honkey shithole because of it.

I encourage you to check out Jiro's sushi joint in Ginza, its got 3 (three) Michelin Stars. Seriously, it does.

His son runs a sushi joint in Roppongi that's got 2 stars as well.

Strongly disagree with the Roppongi assessment. Try the Shangri La next to Tokyo station:

Tokyo station puts you where you want to be for 90% of what you'll want or need to go.

Roppongi is a waste land full of expats trying to get drunk/laid and getting ripped off in the process. Also probably one of the more dangerous areas you can go.

Edit: most of the places you go it won't be much of an issue. Most people do know English but they're afraid of embarrassing themselves. I can't really say in the month total in Tokyo I've spent that there's been any situation that wasn't easily solved.

Wow..... Work told me today to get my bag packed. Looking like I'll be in Tokyo for a week at some point late October early November.

If this lines up sushi is on me.

Can you just walk into that place? I thought you had to book it months in advance.

At least you are going during a nice time of year.

I went in late December and froze my ass off.

Of course, you're right. The brother's place might be less demanding tho.

Thanks all for recommendations. I actually was going to go in August, saw the weather, and said fuck that and moved it to October.
