    The Martian

I am at a party last night and the subject of movies comes up. Somebody mentioned The Martian is supposed to be god and I just gave him a blank look. I totally had no clue. You fags have failed me.

    New York Times #1 book.

The canned description is The Castaway meets Apollo 13. Space science fiction without the James Cameron make believe blue monsters.

First book written by a software engineer who resorted to self publishing and binked huge.

What got me particularly interested was a claim by someone at the party. The writer was contacted by NASA to see if anyone was leaking research cause the technical stuff in movie is so accurate. I am just looking into this movie. Any mention of conspiracy stuff with NASA and I am hooked. May have been a ploy by my friend to get me on board.

MythBusters, Adam Savage does an hour interview with Andy Weir on the technical stuff. Haven't watched all of it yet but Savage is clearly sporting wood.

Anybody got anything to further my interest, please post.

The last movie post was Shrink's attempt to crawl back into the pre-IUGA poker boom womb. That's Freud talking, not me. Let's move on. Hopefully, Matt Damon can resurrect from the damage caused by The Gambler. Heard talk of another Bourne movie. Don't fuck with me.

Off topic third post of my own thread. Yeah, seems right from me.

    Bourne 5
    Release July 29, 2016
    http://screenrant.com/matt-damon-bou...dward-snowden/
Speaking with BuzzFeed while promoting his new film The Martian, Damon stated that he and Greengrass struggled to come up with a compelling plot for a new Bourne in the years following the George W. Bush presidency (which Damon felt the first three films were about). It wasn’t until the Edward Snowden scandal broke in 2013 that they found their inspiration:

“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”

Hey it"s better than sparkling water, but a boxed white wine is acceptable only when trying to warm up the little woman and make her forget your past mistakes.

Don't think I've seen a tasting event with a wall of boxed wine as the backdrop.

    Steely-eyed missile man.

Yeah, I kinda knew the boxed wine would be of more interest.

Whether (I finally spelled this right) you watched & liked this interview is a good litmus test about who you are.

I just finished Adam Savage's interview with Andy Weir. I have as short an attention span as anyone else here but every minute was perfect. The signature of this book & movie is the scientific accuracy as written by a hobbyist. Listening to Savage & Weir riff about the science was like listening to Gilmore & Waters play without the hate.

What struck me was how the author, Weir, was smiling and laughing the entire hour. Great job by Adam Savage. He is very likable of course.

Loved the discussion about the incremental steps Weir took that led to publishing & the movie deal.

Fucking loved the ironic admission by Weir that he was afraid of flying. Had an existential crisis when it came time to visit the movie set in Budapest.

I thought I had stumbled onto something that had potential and as a result of watching this I am "all-in". I noticed I was absently stroking myself while listening.

Always conflicted about book or movie first. Movies never match up well. I can't wait though & am gonna download the book.

Just because I have a day job now doesn't mean my lifestyle suffers.

I find the box fits perfectly in my car's center console. Fill an empty water bottle before you go into Red Lobster and the wait for your restaurant paging vibrator to go off is far more pleasant, plus you don't pay those exorbitant $8 charges for house wine.
