I just returned from a 14-day, 1-way road trip from Los Angeles to Seattle.
That's the reason for my absence from the forum and radio show (though I was checking the forum every day to make sure things were going okay, and had the ability to correct any issues).
That's also some of the reason the forum has been slow recently, because I usually try to generate discussion topics around here, and I wasn't able to do that for the past 2-3 weeks.
Anyway, I'll be active again, and the radio show will return on Tuesday as normal.
Here are the places I went:
Carmel, CA
San Francisco, CA
Glass Beach (Fort Bragg, CA)
Redwood National Park (extreme north CA)
Oregon Caves (southwest Oregon)
Newberry Volcanic Monument (near Bend, OR)
Portland, OR
Mt. St. Helens (central Washington)
Mt. Ranier (central Washington)
Olympic National Park (northwest Washington)
Seatttle, WA
Flew back last night from Seattle to Los Angeles.
Rented a 1-way car which enabled this (otherwise my car would be stuck in Seattle right now!)
Stayed in 11 hotels total.
Weather was excellent until the final day (yesterday), when we ran into heavy rain in Seattle.
Surprisingly little fail for first 11 days of the trip (pretty much everything went as expected, which is shocking if you are road tripping for 11 days), but then some fail finally occurred at the end (but nothing horrible).
May or may not post pictures, depending upon if I feel like uploading them. Took the family on this trip. Benjamin enjoyed it a lot.
Feel free to ask me questions about any of the above places.
Some things I learned on this trip:
- The remaining glass on Glass Beach is on the "hidden" beaches further down past where they direct you to go
- The best time of day to visit Mt. Rainier (in the summer) is the early evening
- If you want to see Redwood National Park properly, you need to stay south of the park the night beforehand
- People in Seattle seem surprisingly aggressive, on par with NYC
- Downtown Portland is full of young douchebags on the weekend, but people aren't aggressive like they are in Seattle
