I'm in Vegas for a convention (I believe this is around 2009 Spring) with my buddy Aaron, and I call up Martin because I had been chatting with him for years, it's a weekday, and we don't really know anyone else around. On a second thought I could have hollered at Todd or Micorn or someone else like that (Todd definitely owes me and donktilt beers after flaking last time), but Martin comes through with about a 30 minutes speech about how he took 3rd in a UB MTT for $1200 earlier in the day and how excited he is to celebrate with us. I offer to pick him up, but he declines because he doesn't want us to "drive five minute extra and a cab is only like $10 anyway." Martin meets us at the Rainforest Cafe in MGM around dinnertime after we're done with work-related matters, and he's dining like a king chomping down his chicken sandwich and wine (which I believe set him back in the vicinity of $40-45 plus tip). Anyway, he's so happy to see us, already loves us, and tells us to buckle up for a wild night.
So after he finishes his dinner, he announces that we're playing Poker at the MGM Poker Room and that we can play the $0.50/$1 NL game they had where you can buy in for $20 to $50. We can get wasted for cheap, and talk some bullshit/fuck around in some micro-stakes poker game. Great plan. I buy in for the min $20 because I didn't really feel like playing, and getting wasted seemed like a good idea (of course, Martin bought in for the $50 max). My buddy Aaron went to play penny slots or something like that, but me and Martin end up crushing about 9 AMF's (http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink735.html) which are supposed to be like 2 shots each but probably watered down considerably for scrubs playing micro Poker. As far as the game goes, we both go on some huge runs stacking the whole table and end up running into each other HU in the final hand that went like this (both 9 drinks in): Limped around i'm in mid position with 99 so I limp behind, Martin also limps behind. Flop is 95x with 9 high all rainbows, and I overship for like ~$120 (something like 15-20x the pot at least) with the top set for reasons I won't discuss. Martin INSTA-calls when I'm about to try to tell him to fold, and everyone else folds. The cards run out, and he shows 95o for two pair that didn't runner runner quads and I scoop the pot. It turns out I have him barely covered and probably win one of the biggest pots in the history of that game. We have a few more drinks at the bar next to the poker room (another drink or two of triple sec iirc) where he's basically discussing how he had to call there, and even though he lost and it was obv rigged it was hella fun. I take out $30 to pay for our drinks, and he immediately forces it back into my hands saying how it was on him tonight to show us a good time.
We leave MGM around 1-2 AM I think and ended up at the Wynn after a long drive through town. My buddy Aaron didn't drink at all because of some medical condition, so he was able to drive us. Somewhere along the way we toke a decent amount, and I'm basically zombied out of my mind and feel like puking while Martin is still full of energy and not in any mood to slow down for the night. We head into the Wynn and run into some black guy who was with the girl in the picture above, and Martin goes up to them to ask the guy if we can take a picture with his girl. The guy agrees (I think he was definitely her pimp or manager, he said something like "oh that expensive" iirc), and of course that is the reason why that picture is still around today. Right after we take the picture, Martin spots the poker room which is spreading 1/3, 2/5, and 5/10 with 100 BB max buyin. By this point me and Aaron were tired as hell and remembered that we had to check out of our timeshare by 11 AM, so we say goodbye to Martin and head back to our room. I think I puked and went to sleep. The next day Martin tells me that he dropped a buyin at the $2/$5 game (~$500), and I log onto AIM chat to see SetOfKs and Gerson talking about a hand history where Martin either 4 or 5 bet to $258 in a $2/$4 NL game at UB to fold to $142 more. His account was down something like $1600 in cash games that morning according to one of the cash game trackers that supplied the hand history. Couple hundred more than his $1200 score from earlier.
All in all, it was a fun day. I'd definitely put it a notch higher than the night I hung out with Brian Hoserman, although Brian was God for flying out to meet us all the way from his Texas enclave. I think Martin is a really nice guy, and is definitely more of an empath than a sociopath. Perhaps he's just very misunderstood and/or has had life experiences that altered his thoughts into something incompatible with other mainstream Americans.

Don't think so, I've been around this town long enough to get a pretty good feel for who's working and who's not. Also, it's a small town out here in a lot of ways...
