What do we think about this show?


Only recently been introduced to this program but I'm kinda hooked.


I've always loved the concept of turning shit into possible gold. But part of me thinks that some of the mysterious items that appear in those lockers - which then go on to get valued by specialist dealers are secretly planted by the program makers to make it more interesting.


Also, with the odd exception, most of the characters in the show are total cringeworthy dickheads. They genuinely believe they're delivering humour but it's just pure embarrassment at times.


Like to also state that this program wouldn't make it into my all time top 500 shows that I've watched in the past. But right now, I just can't switch the fucker off.

Of course it's all staged just like all "reality" tv.

Jesus, you really think anything in that show is remotely authentic? Of course they plant shit in there, most storage lockers for auction are pure shit which is why they are abandoned in the first place.

Another scam show is American Pickers. Another BS show where everything is planted. The show originally was the main guy driving around looking for old bicycles. When that was a snooze fest they expanded it to anything, brought the fat guy in and the paid actress acting like a store manager.

I am proud to say I have not watched a reality show for a long time, and significantly smarter because of this abstinence.

Only about 10 shows in and was hoping at least some of it was legit.


Used to enjoy the 'Antiques Roadshow' were members of the public would bring items along that had been in the family for years, then dealers would give them a price estimation and a little history on said item.

One time somebody brought a painting along that they found in their attic, which ended up going for millions.

So guess in someways it reminded me of that but without the idiotic characters.

We have a Canadian version of this show & know a guy who the pickers visited personally. He wouldn't just give them stuff & the producer had to take him aside & tell him that if he didn't give them a deal on something to buy he would not be on the show. He ended up selling them an antique hutch for what he had into it. The pickers expect these people to take a loss or not make anything on an item so they can make the profit in exchange for them being on the show.

If you like shows about finding shit worth something Deadliest Catch and Bering Sea Gold are fairly decent. Neither is brutally scripted and they even have some likeable characters.

As made up as 3/4 of this show is I have to admit having watched most of the first two seasons. This and pawn stars are my versions of survivor or the real housewives of whereverthefuck
