The reasons The Young Turks and other leftists are raising this issue is because the left is fearing the erosion of their longtime, unquestioning support of the American Jewish community.
The right has become increasingly vocal about support for Israel, while people like Omar on the left are driving Jews away from the Democratic Party.
So now we're getting rhetoric like, "Oh, sure, we don't completely support Israel, but we support stopping the hate crimes against AMERICAN Jews, while those evil conservatives are the ones who are COMMITTING these hate crimes against you!"
Anti-Semites compose a tiny portion of the Republican Party nowadays, but the left needs to play up the prevalence of these few idiots in order to paint conservatives as either anti-Semitic or at least tolerant of such behavior.
Also, what is the solution regarding the supposed rise in hate crimes against Jews? Is the solution better "education" for the anti-Semites? Election of more Democratic candidates? Higher taxes?
No. The solution is to pass stiffer, across-the-board penalties for ALL violent crime and terrorist activity, not just so-called hate crime. Conservatives overwhelmingly support this, while the left typically does not.
Also, Ilhan Omar is a huge problem in general for the Democrats.
For years, they have been hugging Muslims in this country, insisting that the right has been exaggerating Muslim support of terrorism and hatred of Jews.
Muslims became their newest civil rights project -- in some cases becoming the top of the victimization totem pole, pushing gays down to 2nd, blacks down to 3rd, and women down to 4th. (It could be argued that trans women have now taken the top spot, though.)
Now that a high-profile, Muslim Congresswoman is making the exact statements that Repubilcans have been attributing all along to the American Muslim community, the Democrats don't know what to do.
Now she's even going after Obama.
They've been on the excuse train for her in 2019, but the excuses are running out, especially as she is attacking one of their own beloved figures. Soon they're going to have to confront this, and simply casting all conservatives as anti-Semites who don't care about hate crime against Jews isn't going to make the problem go away.
