So I thought, "What does this mean? He had 2 years left, so does that mean he's under contract for 5 years now? Or does the 3 years replace the two he had left?"
Not a single fucking news outlet clarified this, including all the major ones.
My inclination is to believe that this makes his contract 5 years, but I'm not sure.
Really dreadful how bad journalism has gotten. That's a pretty huge detail to omit.
If the 3-year deal is replacing the remaining 2 years, then the Dodgers are paying something like $25m to add an extra year, which isn't terrible.
If it's adding to the existing 2 years, then it's terrible, as he will be getting $31m average for 3 more years when he'll likely be in further decline.
So I'd love to know the truth here.
