Druff glad you are covering the power move by Person on HCL. I wanted to start a thread but was on the road. Looking forward to your take on it. I just had a couple thoughts.

Person is playing largely for exposure to his Maverick brand. He does have a lot of clout. However, I think Ryan & Nick had more leverage here than they thought. They were forced to make a snap decision and I get that booting Batman only really leaves him feeling shitty, so on it’s surface it seems a no brainer.

However, if Eric says I’m going to play only on PokerGo & LATB he is cutting his exposure substantially. LATB is getting hardly any eyeballs right now and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change. PokerGo may offer by and large the greatest experience for these whales over at the Aria studio, but their viewership is absolute crumbs behind a paywall. We don’t know the viewership numbers for sure, but you can just tell on social media no one is talking about it. Probably a few hundred viewers at most. Right now there is no platform that is anywhere in HLC’s universe. Not even close.

This is about the upteeneth time Hustler Live has managed to unscrew the pooch. I’ll be honest, Mr. Dr. Batman is not very liked in the chat by the audience. He was the first time he played, but right now he has a negative approval rating. To what extent that is by people not liking his sthtick or the fact the Person has buried him is debatable. I think the majority of people did react negative to the power play. I didn’t like seeing it. So getting him on the show the next night and “repairing” the situation helped.

At the end of the day what happened to Mr DB was really shitty. I wouldn’t want to play on the show the next night. It had to be a terrible feeling when that happened to him. It truly must of been a “are you fucking serious?” moment. Sure a mix of humiliation and embarrassment that really eats at you. It probably warrants a more full throated public apology from Nick & Ryan. I’ll be interested to hear how he feels now and what he plans on doing moving forward.

That being said, Mr. D B should of realized to stay away from Eric. He should of backed off and not keep poking him. It was clear Eric didn’t want anything to do with him. So needling him with that tip jar was just a really awful move. Some people just aren’t going to like you and if they have the clout Eric has, it would of been best to leave it be.

As for the moderating issue, yes it’s big big mistake to ban an account that just left a $200 super chat. In general the chat is so bad unless it’s actual hate speech, doxxing, spamming, etc, I don’t think they should level the ban hammer. I can see Eric’s fuse being blown to hell at that point. But it could of been an excuse for what he did, he very likely could of been thinking about getting him kicked off the show before the moderating error. Huge mistake to ban his account though and Mr. DB paid a big price for it.

Eric also did kind of dox Mr. DB in his first tweet, using his full name which I don’t believe was public knowledge at that point. So it was a fucking mess all around. I will say I think Eric was being pretty genuine when talking about not wanting to crush people on Vertucci’s podcast. Of course talking about Mr. DB’s credit card being declined was mainly to embarrass him. However, I do feel he is being genuine when he was saying he thought Mr DB was gambling to high. Looking forward to your thoughts and the interview.

Wanted to add this just for context. This is where it all started. I think no matter if you gamble for crumbs or for hundred of thousands of dollars, you know being a bad winner is very poor etiquette. Eric probably didn’t premeditate to really poor salt in the wound if he stacked Mr. DB, but it’s clear he didn’t like the “tilt card” shtick and voiced it.

I think even he would agree he picked a poor time to voice it. Mr. DB just lost probably the biggest pot of his life, it’s on stream, it’s basically a punt and I’m sure he had that sick dizzy feeling we all know to well. There is no question you take the pot here and don’t say a word. This is extremely poor etiquette and I’m sure Eric would agree. Yes, it’s good for clicks and makes for a nice clip, but it’s also mean spirited and cruel. Add getting kicked off stream the other day, and Mr DB has some real gripes here.

If Eric didn’t like Mr. DB antics he literally could of picked any other time to voice it and it would of been a better time. This has probably been an open wound and lead to the escalation and craziness. Hand starts 8:14:09.

It’s not great. But going to be tough to find someone genuinely funny/entertaining who also doesn’t mind playing 400/800 on stream. Slim Pickens. Not being funny doesn’t mean you deserve that kind of needle or to be humiliated by getting kicked off stream in front of thousand of viewers. So it’s really two separate issues imho. Again, he should of ceased needling Eric. He brought this on himself, but it’s still pretty shitty what’s happened to him. Funny or not.

Just noticed on Mr DB Twitter that he uses his real name on Instagram. So Eric didn’t semi dox him. His name was out there already and it’s kind of standard to call someone out by name. Just wanted to correct that. I thought about why Mr DB would continue to try and needle Eric. Eric’s whole persona is kind of “Don’t fuck with me”.

I think that wound from being berated when losing 300K would be something tough to let go. Eric really is the key player now in the high stakes streamer games. Keating may be the star, but Keating is going to listen to Eric. So it’s also understandable that Mr DB wanted to get Eric to like him. I don’t know why you would try to out needle Eric though. Doesn’t seem like the way to go.

Thing is if HCL had to choose between EP and Batman it wasnt hard to decide who was going to win that battle but the sudden 180 with MDB basically theyre calling Erics bluff we shall see what happens. HCLs biggest source of revenue is likely their deal with WPT Global which ironic a majority of their viewers cant even play on and likely wont be able to for who knows how long. Personally Im sick of the WPT Global shilling at this point with the stream since we cant play I dont entirely understand why WPT is pouring money into the stream when literally a majority of the viewers arent potential customers.
