Poker in Paris

Before I went out on vacation a week and a half ago I was approached by a new Sr leader at my company about coming aboard his team. Long story short I’m a 20 year Vet and his team is drastically missing operational experience. My management said it’s an arranged marriage if I want to go and if it falls apart I’d be welcomed back with open arms, so I agree. The new boss says the new job, if I want them, will have some travel perks.

Fast forward to this mornings phone call right when I signed on where my new boss asks if I’d be willing to come meet him and some other management types in Munich and then spend a week and a half in Paris supporting a project that’s falling apart. After I broke my wife’s heart I agreed to go. Now keep in mind I took the family to Paris/Normandy/London two years ago so I’ve seen a lot of the touristy type stuff Paris has to offer.

Because I’m a degen I’ll likely do 1-2 nights playing poker - where does one do that in Paris?

Not a great city for poker, a bunch got shut down for money laundering in the last two years. There's a brand new one i've heard things about but never been myself (Paris Club Elysées). All the best poker in France is on the south coast. You could also try Casino Barriere in Paris, theyre a big casino group and their room in Deauville hosted an EPT for many years. Apart from that I don't know shit.

Ok fairly fucking sick session last night at the (Paris Club Elysées. Really really impressed with the room. All poker is consider for “high rollers”. It was 5-10 NL and 5-10 PLO.

The rake was some crazy crazy formula I didn’t fully get. It was like 5€ a hand up to 300€ but once it got beyond that there is an additional drop and once it got over 1K € it was a flat 5%. Some mister hands they were taking 40€.

It costs you 15€ just to get in.

All the chips have RFI chips in them and the pot is placed within a outlined square on the table. A computer counts the chips and all the table information is put up for everyone to see.



There were some world class PLO players there. There was also some whales. Dudes calling off with bottom two for hundreds bad.

All and all I’d go back here because of the action. It’s cruise chip theory. Yeah it’s a rip off but the only people who are stupid enough to pay it are the people you want in the game.
