Two vloggers named Ashley Youtube channels struggling to grow. Why?

There is endless shit to write about poker vlogs and their popularity. I noticed this morning on YouTube two newly uploaded vlogs by two attractive female vloggers both named Ashley. Poker Face Ash and Ashley Sleeth. They have both got the rub from the current head honcho and current GPI vlogger of the year Brad Owen.

They are doing things the right way. They are running things from his playbook. They have been uploading vlogs first thing Monday morning (Brad Owen Tip).

So why are they both languishing between 17-18K subs? Is the whole poker community sexist? One would think that a couple of attractive females would have a meteoric rise in the growing Vlog space.

I am not going to pick apart their content. My theory is that vlogs are like Porn..best in POV. The viewer is vicariously going through the journey with the vlogger. Essentially taking his place. The viewership is overwhelming male. I’m sure over 99%. The fact that these two attractive females are not growing at a much greater rate seems to back up the hypothesis.

Relatability is key in these vlogs. It’s not like other channels aren’t growing. People keep watching. Both these women are doing what they have to do. But it’s seems like it truly is about the viewer sitting in the vlogger’s seat.

Following the Slot Lady drama made me think what is difference between watching an attractive woman play slots/tables and watching them play poker. The main difference is the vlogs are really more about the poker and the Slot Lady stuff was really more about watching her.

I want to be clear this is not a criticism of either one of these ladies. The vlogs I have watched have been well done and both seem to be competent and pleasant. Just looking at their subs today got me thinking.

I think you raise some good points.

One issue with Ashley Sleeth is that she's the longtime girlfriend of high stakes pro Jesse Sylvia, and features him in her videos. This pushes out the simp contingent, who might be watching with the fantasy of dating her at some point. Even if these guys don't have a realistic path in doing so, at least they can have the fantasy that one day they might run into her in a poker room and impress her. When it's clear that she's in love with a successful high stakes pro, it kinda takes the wind out of those sails. At that point, she might as well be a dude vlogger, as far as they're concerned.

In fact, as we discussed over in the SlotLady thread, that's why SlotLady went to such pains for years to keep her live-in boyfriend hidden from her viewers.

Does Poker Face Ash have a boyfriend, too?

I guess Sleeth can’t do shit about the Simps. Maybe not have her man in the vlogs. But Poker Face Ash has been ambiguous about her relationship status from the vlogs I have seen. SlotLady style. Makes me think maybe their isn’t nearly as big a pool of simps wanting to watch poker vlogs as there have been with SlotLady playing tables/slots.

I really think Poker Face thought the Simps would be subbing & donating at a much faster clip. I think this goes back to my original POV argument. Being an attractive female in the Vlog space doesn’t seem to be a major draw. It gets them on the map and the initial boost for sure. But both have plateaued out tremendously.

One more thing I did find pretty amusing is that the major perk to being an attractive female vlogger is you have more coaches than the New England Patriots. I’m sure all doing it pro bono & just for the mentions/plugs.

The names they rattle off seems like they got a preflop coach, flop coach, turn coach, river coach, MTT coach, single table tournament coach, bet sizing coach and of course the coup de grais…the mindset coach.

Druff has covered this before. You will see Lily Newhouse appear as a mindset coach often in Poker Face Ash’s vlogs. While I do think being in the right state of mind is extremely important, I am not sure she is being anything more than a really supportive friend. But to each their own.

For the record, I wish them both success. I just found the lack of growth of the channels surprising. I don’t find fault in either’s approach. I think it’s more about the viewership base like I said earlier.

Two more golf second places (each by a stroke) over the weekend brought me back to checking out the Ashley vlogs today…. Sleeth at close to 26K subs and Poker Face totally stalled out at 21.8K.

I watched the last Vlog for each. Both seem to be uploading regularly. Hate to say it, even with the old man Sylvia keeping the simps away, Sleeth’s Vlog was so much better. She is just more creative and steady. Poker face Ash is just going right into 2/3 hand histories & there is just nothing compelling about the content.

Sleeth would prob be crushing it if she was single. She is creative & very telegenic. Poker Face Ash’s content has actually regressed. I’m not trying to be a dick, it really has. Seems like she’s just not into it anymore.

I watched some of Pokerface Ash's blogs but have now given up and did not subscribe. I found them very boring because the poker is low-stakes and extremely ABC. She hardly ever bluffs or even semi-bluffs. She's also just super-nice which I find boring.

Over a similar period Rampage and Mariano have racked up 160K and 112K subscribers respectively, including me. Rampage is basically a bad player who has no self-awareness that he's had a lifetime of run-good in tourneys over the past 18 months. He's now playing in cash games 10X too big for his ability. It's going to end in a car crash but I'm enjoying the ride. Mariano is a good, thinking player who has turned into an absolute crusher over the past year. He's had a few stumbles in the highest stakes games but he will eventually prevail and his analysis is very educational. Watching him has improved my own play.

Another struggler is Ginge Poker (22K subscribers) which I find strange because his content is top notch. His 500 Zoom stream highlight videos are the best free content out there. I actually feel I could beat 500 Zoom after watching them (I can't).

So these vloggers apparently make a dick tom of money promoting these apps where you will be cheated/not paid/slow paid etc. Here is poker face Ash. Looks like this is a way to groom some naive idiots. They will have to download and set up an account to play.

Obviously they will get some to start playing real money. Other than that nothing to report on the Ashleys. Neither have really taken off. Sleeth is really cool. I find her really likable but for whatever reason she’s just not popping.
