As amazing as that call looks, I think it's possible it was a tilt call.
Look at the starting stack sizes.
Berri exactly 10k, other guy 30.4k.
Berri may have dusted off two buyins, and rebought right before this hand.
These guys must play 4 or 5 nights a week. Late. 3am/4am NV, CA Time
3 tables on Pokerstars. Berri has been doing this for a long while now. Hes played Linus, Limitless etc. Dont think it was tilt. Dudes a true legend. I rail once in a blue moon. But hes had some sick battles.
Yeah I’m with incognito, unlikely it was a tilt call over just 2 buyins for a longtime high stakes player.
I did run the hand through PioSolver, reasonably played by both until the river call of course. But it’s not totally insane – only 1% of IP’s GTO overbet shoving range is a bluff that beats JTo.
More than enough to make JTo a fold. Generally in a Pio sim, an average bluffcatcher will be an approximately breakeven call vs a bet, and JTo is a below average bluffcatcher (seeing as it loses/chops vs some bluffs, blocks bluffs (T8/JT) and doesn't block value.
That's all theory of course, makeboifin gets to the river w a lot of air given all draws miss, so if he doesn't give up with a lot of them his bluffing frequency will be too high and JT will be a good call. 8d6h is pretty much the nut bluffing combo though so it doesn't give us much information re: his bluffing frequency.
The shove/bluff on the river with that board is extremely suspicious. The most likely hand I would have put him on was J/10 (same missed draw happens more than you think, especially when you don’t pair up) so I don’t think the call heads up wasn’t totally out of line. Sometimes you’re just like, fuck it, I want to see that hand. It’s what I call a “semi-tilt call”.
Seem to recall a story in Doyle Brunson's book "Super System" where Brunson made a hero call with J high & won the pot. BERRI SWEET must have read the book & realized that J high was gold here.
