Ben Zobrist takes indefinite leave from Cubs for... divorce?!

Weird story.

Zobrist filed for separation, stating, that his “has been guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which rendered further cohabitation impossible".

His wife filed for divorce the next day.

Zobrist left the Cubs on May 8 and hasn't returned. There is no timetable for when he'll be back.

I've never seen an MLB player go on leave related to a divorce, despite the many marital problems and divorces they end up having.

I do wonder if she was the one cheating on him, given his filing stating "inappropriate marital conduct", and his apparent devastation over the whole thing. If he were the one cheating and caught, you'd think he wouldn't have panicked so much, knowing it was his own doing.

I realize that, in a large percentage of divorce cases involving professional athletes, it's the man cheating with groupies while on the road.

Ive been a huge Zobrist fan since his time in Tampa. Love that he plays anywhere. He helped the Royals and Cubs to WS titles.

But this bitch has always been on my radar. For one she always dresses super slutty. And she’s over the top Christian which usually means hypocrite. She’s also over the top on social media about how much she loves Ben. Which means she’s been catching a 10” black dick for years most likely.

Zobrist has told the Cubs he may not be coming back this year. Amazing.

I have a feeling that he's suffering from severe depression, and therefore cannot function.

Having just gone through that last year, I see how that can take someone out of a demanding activity like baseball.

(If you remember, Zach Greinke was out of baseball when he was younger, due to social anxiety. That's different yet related to depression.)

Zobrist won't be back until at least September, and perhaps not then.

I actually have had him on my fantasy team for a few years, and I'm going to be dropping him.

This is so weird. It's gotta be severe depression. That's the only thing that makes sense here.

Though it's not clear to me why he's so certain that he won't be ready to play until September. What if the depression lifts by then? Maybe he knows he's not in baseball shape anymore, and would need time to get into playing condition even if he got better soon. Though it's only been about 6 weeks, so I still don't understand. Maybe he's so depressed that he can't picture himself breaking out of it before September.

I guess he's fortunate that he's 38 and his career was near over anyway. This could have been a dumb-yet-devastating blow to his career if he were 10 years younger.

Fortunately for the Cubs, the emergence of David Bote (who may or may not be a long term solution) has made Zobrist's absence no big deal.

I live in a neighborhood with a heavy population of current and retired athletes, WAGS, and ex-WAGS. I've heard and seen some nutty stuff, can't even imagine what really goes on in this subculture.

The dudes are all super loaded, the wives are all hot; throw in some CTE and anything goes. The athletes are always the funniest guys in the room - all the male star fuckers clamor when they are on the driving range or at the club.

It's a weird fucking dynamic. The athletes are by far the most normal. The male star fuckers, the WAGS and ex-WAGS are the whack-a-doos.
