i can see him saying it at one time in his life. let's face it many enlisted peeps have no other avenues to choose in life, which is why they don't necessarily get the best and brightest people.
earlier in trump's life he was a wannabe hobnobbing elite, who stuck his nose up at many average folk. he was doing this when there was still plenty of greenhorn inside himself, right down to his younger days when he had a snaggle tooth, and basically played pretend businessman.

It is amusing to me that just as the election is around the corner, people would believe unsourced reports that a guy trying to get elected - and supposedly willing to say anything to get elected - all of the sudden disparages one of his strongest voting blocks to fairly random people.
