booking.com clamping down on hotels trying to stiff them out of resort fee commission

In what might possibly be a move which will result in resort fees being removed or scaled back, booking.com has become the first online booking company to charge hotels commission on resort fees.

Online travel agencies like booking.com have always had this right, but haven't enforced it.

However, finally recognizing that resort fees are simply part of the base hotel rate and just charged at a different point, booking.com decided to stop getting screwed and is going to be charging commission.

This won't hurt the average traveler, and in fact booking.com is in the right here. They deserve commission on the entire rate, and it's not fair for hotels to cut out part of that rate, call it "resort fees", and get out of paying the commission.
