Also, I don't really want to see a major change in the cruise industry. I'd like to see a few modifications -- better medical care onboard, and elimination of the scammy mandatory tips which the line just pockets. I'd also like to see them stop with the bullshit restrictions which started a few years ago regarding bringing your own drinks onboard. Nowadays, even if you're carrying a water bottle back from a port, they confiscate it (and not for safety/hygienic reasons).
However, the smart consumer can use cruises as a great value way to conveniently travel, especially to islands or other places which are difficult or impossible to reach. If you book at the right time (late), arrange your own shore excursions, avoid spending much money onboard (except for speciality dining), and avoid the fail casino (except for the blackjack tournament), you can get a nice vacation for cheap. If you know the dumb things to avoid doing (such as stuffing a family of 4 into an inside cabin), you can have a pleasant experience.
I don't want to see that change. I don't want a situation where they change the entire model and the best stuff about cruising goes away.
I think the experience has become aggregator site low bid trash. I’ve stated before my last cruise was my last cruise.
The resort fees you find in Vegas find a cruise ship parallel with tip-scamming and never ending up sell and on board hustle. Lousy experience.
Branson or someone else might be bold enough to bolt some parts onto his brand which has never been low bid.

Correct me if im wrong San but what rescue are you talking about? Most I’ve seen is theybgetting rent for a month or two as a floating hotel for the government while on hiatus. No bail out, no loans..... what am I missing?Quote:

BJ tournament has such a big edge for players with a clue that you can usually overcome rake. It's done by a leaderboard. They have it posted. You wait until 2nd to last round to enter, then bet enough to catch the last person on leaderboard. Often it will be low and you can just minbet most of the way and let your opponents hang themselves. Sometimes they only take one leader from each table, and if there aren't enough tables to fill the leaderboard, you just min bet until someone gets way ahead.
Then at final table do same min betting strategy until someone gets ahead.
There's a lot of variance and usually only one winner, but usually entry is $20 and prize is $500. So if you win more than 4% of the time, which you will, it's +EV.

Booking cruises has gone up for the year 2021.
People see infections spreading everywhere and see prices go down and think, I'm dying to go on a cruise.

I like cruises, but this industry is fucking dead probably forever. Who in their right mind would go on a ship where they could instantly be quarantined for weeks at a time? Not me. The rooms are about the same size as a prison cell. The only reason you go on a cruise is because of the ship itself. If you are locked in your room there is no point.

The "increased bookings" for 2021 are misleading. That's people who got credit (instead of refunds) booking with their credit. The cruise lines are getting very few new bookings for real money, nor are the prices discounted at the moment for that reason (they'd rather rip of the idiots with credit).

They can't sail until the Dept of Health and Human Services say that COVID-19 no longer constitutes a public health emergency (likely not until 21), OR the CDC director rescinds the order (probably not for a long time), OR 100 days from the order's official publication passes (but then another order can be handed down).
So we are looking at what appears to be July or later until cruising happens again, and likely much longer.
