Nuns embezzled $500,000 from a Catholic school in California in order to gamble in Vegas

Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper, the school principal for 28 years, and Sister Lana Chang, a teacher at the school for 20 years, stole $500,000 from St. James Catholic School in Torrance, CA.

The purpose?

They were degenerate gamblers.

The money was stolen over a period of about 10 years.

The school has declined to press charges, so they may not even see any criminal penalties over this.

Torrance is a suburb of Los Angeles. I grew up very close to there.

I immediately thought the lesbian thing, too.

But they're also old, and a lot of old women seem to take on that look, including the straight ones, so it gets to be hard to tell.

The vow of celibacy does seem to attract a lot of gay preists, possibly because it gave them an excuse not to date women (at least back in the days when homosexuality wasn't accepted by the general public). This, of course, led to a lot of the molestation of boys within the Catholic church, as you had a lot of gay preists with no sexual outlet, and some would use their time with boys as a way to relieve that. (Obviously I'm not defending it, but that's clearly a big contributing factor.)

It's possible that, with being gay now very accepted in today's society, fewer gay men will choose to hide their gayness through becoming a preist, and perhaps the incidence of these molestations will go down. There could still be a problem with straight preists molesting young girls, but they have much less contact with young girls than young boys, so the opportunity is far less.

So perhaps the same thing is true with these nuns, except instead of molesting children, they just find each other and have a gay ol' time. Note that women very rarely molest children, so it would make sense for some nuns to be secret lesbians with each other, whereas some male preists would resort to molestation.

A $500,000 freeroll. Of course no charges would be filed.

There's a massive shortage of priests compared to when we were growing up, at least as far as the Pope-lead church goes, since they don't allow marriage. Roman Catholic was the church I grew up in (my backstory: my God belief was about equal to my Santa beliefs, but I was still an altar boy from 4-6th grade. I got confirmed, but been a non-believer my entire life, essentially).

There's an even bigger shortage of nuns, as far as I can tell. Nuns get all of the restrictions (plus more) of priests, but less of the benefits.
Even by the time I was in Catholic school, '89-'95, there was less than a nun per grade, but the Principle and Vice Principle were both nuns, there were nuns in the office, and the ones who still taught were known for some special skill, like Sister Monice the disciplinarian in 2nd grade, or Sister Mary Julia in 4th grade, who made everyone feel welcome and knew how to smile, was human, and didn't wear the habit, etc. By the time I did my Confirmation (essentially the 8 or 9th grade Adult Baptism, where you rubber stamp the bullshit someone said you agreed to as a newborn when you were <90 days oldhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation and you add anpther middle name like you need another fucking middle name ever), where I felt me and the church were mutually lying to each other, them by their ridiculous doctrine and me by being like 'yeah, I believe that bullshit, Bishop.'

One thing worth mentioning, the accused nuns were probably paid dogshit for all there work over the years, if anything at all above food, board, and a minuscule stipend. Nuns take a vow of poverty, and the church enforces it, which is not something they do for priests nearly as much. Near me, this usually was obvious by the nuns having a single car for the entire convent, and the priests driving Town Cars and Grand Marquis under their own names. As an Irish Catholic, I've long realized that both the Irish and the Catholics have screwed women more and harder than anyone, and the Nuns often internalized that shit and crushed all the women below them because that was the only outlet.

Fuck the Catholic Church.
