Full WSOP schedule released

As you might remember, about 2 weeks ago they accidentally leaked the schedule of big-buyin events at the 2014 WSOP. You can read about that in this thread: http://pokerfraudalert.com/forum/sho...-10m-guarantee

Now they have finally posted the entire schedule.

There are 65 tournaments, starting on May 27 with the Casino Employees Event. The first "open" event is on May 28, which is the $25,000 Mixed-Max NL Holdem. $1k PLO also takes place the same day.

The first "donkament" takes place on May 29, which is $1k NL Holdem.

If you want a really huge field, play the Millionaire Maker event on May 31st ($1500 buyin) with the $1 million guaranteed first prize. It had over 6,343 entrants last year, and wreaked havoc upon the WSOP because Caesar's didn't expect those numbers (even though everyone was predicting it). I cashed in that one last year, but not for very much.

The WSOP continues to thumb its nose at Limit Holdem. There aren't any Limit Holdem events until June 20 ($1500 Limit Holdem), and the only other event is the $10,000 Limit Holdem on June 26. As recently as 2012, there were 5 Limit Holdem events, plus a Mixed Limit-NL Holdem. Now all of them are gone except for those two I just mentioned. The $2500 Limit 6-Max event, which was still there in 2013, is now gone.

This will lower my overall pahticipation in the WSOP. I don't know why they are only running 2 LHE events out of 65 in the WSOP, when LHE games are still a fairly high percentage of cash games running. Why are they still wasting events on garbage like Pot Limit Holdem?

I also refuse to play those $1k donkaments, because you only start with 3,000 chips, and it's just not enough. Too much luck involved, and you really don't want it to mainly be about luck when you're trying to get through a field of thousands.

I will play some of the $1500 NL events again, as the 4500 starting chips is much better, and I have done fairly well in those.

I will again play the Main Event.

I will be selling pieces of myself again this year, though no more than 40% in any single event, and again not for the Main Event.

Overall, it's a disappointing schedule for me personally.

I also want to advise NOT playing the Little One for One Drop.

I have nothing against the $1,111 One Drop charity, but the event should be boycotted because Caesar's is expecting the players to foot the entire charity bill ($111 per entry), while still charging full rake for the house.

Charity events should, at the very least, be a joint effort between the venue and the players.

Otherwise it's just a way for the corporation to profit from people's attempts to be charitable, which is really crappy.

Also, you don't get to write off the $111 from your taxes (it's a write-off for Caesar's!)

Oh, and one interesting event is the $1,500 MONSTER STACK event, which is an NL event where you start with 15k chips instead of 4500.

I would have wanted to play it, but it's the same day as the $10k Limit Holdem, so forget it.

Oh, a few other minor changes this year, too.

In order to accommodate the degens who enter multiple events in one day, they have extended late registration until just prior to the start of Level 7. It used to be Level 5.

The dinner break typically occurs after Level 6 on the 12pm events. This means that people can enter 12pm events until 8:10pm on most days! Of course, this is being done to make more rake for Caesar's.

In addition, they are starting most of the late-afternoon events at 4pm instead of 5pm, and playing 10 levels instead of 8. This was being done to prevent people from making as many "meaningless Day 2s", where they have to return with a tiny stack on Day 2, yet still far from the money. While I like this change, again it was money-motivated. Caesar's realized they were losing out on people registering for the next day's 12pm events when they made Day 2s with short stacks, which typically restarted at 2pm or 3pm.

This change does make a very late day for the 4pm events, though. Players won't be finished until well after 3am.

This totally blew my plans out of the water.

Personally it ended up working better as I can play both PLO8 tournaments and if I bust the first one I can contemplate buying into the Mega Stack.

What I didn't see is if their is a one day break after Day 1C of the main event and Day 2.

It's only a matter of time before the WSOP Main Event becomes an event you re-enter even if it's just once per starting day.

Lots of strategy can be used based on stack sizes, blind level, your strength as a player, your perception of the opponents at your table regarding their weakest games that you pick up along the way,etc...

This is obscene. 16 games.

BTW, over the years I observed that most mix game players are fairly weak at Limit Holdem, aside from the ones who started out as Limit Holdem players in the first place.

I've always felt that, aside from some of the top cash players in the game, mix games are for people who are okay at a lot of games but not that good at any of them.

This won't be each hand, it will be each round to keep the rotation of blinds going otherwise their could be an unfair advantage with missed blinds in the games with forced blinds. Crazy none the less though.

Yeah, that is what I sort of figured which is why I said "if it was true dealers choice" which that is more of the home game type of setup.

Either way you run into issues because if a player busts or player gets moved then someone else will get a favorable spot from time to time on whichever game they would like.

It's still crazy though and how do they adjust the blinds in relation to a no limit or pot limit game versus any limit game?

If your an expert at split games do you really want to pick one of them knowing you won't scoop that often?

What if someone is short but an expert at the limit based games do you really want to pick one of those over a game you have the best chance to double up in even if it's a risk because your not that great at it?

So many strategic thoughts run through my head when brain storming this type of tournament.

This event could turn into a cluster fuck as well if some dealers are clueless of the rules of some of these games .

I agree it'll be a clusterfuck, but they may well have it set up as a "hand for hand" for the whole thing to avoid half the likely problems mentioned.

To avoid any of the blinds/missed blinds they could make it ante only.

A) Having the 10K LHE and the $1500 Monster Stack Tournament around the same time is a really bad fucking idea; Caesar's never astounds me how many ways they lose money (while still making a profit, but thats what lobbyists are for)

B) At least they have the $1500 Razz on a Friday this year; now I can actually play the fucking thing

Charity Event Returns To World Series of Poker For 2014 World Series of Poker

The first dealt hand is more than three months away, but there are already 23 confirmed players for the second running of the historic $1 million buy-in Big One For One Drop charity poker tournament being held as part of the 2014 World Series of Poker.

The first running of the event in 2012 sold out, reaching the predetermined cap of 48 players. In the end, poker pro Antonio Esfandiari emerged victorious, earning $18,346,673 and a platinum WSOP bracelet for the win while more than $5.3 million was raised for the One Drop charitable organization.

This year the event will run from from June 29 to July 1 with the cap on the field raised to 56 entrants, or seven eight-handed tables.


2012 Big One Champ Antonio Esfandiari

With the new field cap the first-place prize has the potential to reach $20,000,000 if every seat is filled. The winner this year will again earn a special edition WSOP platinum bracelet created by luxury watchmaker and jeweler Richard Mille. Seats in the event are first-come first-serve, with those providing a deposit guaranteeing their seat.

“I was thrilled when I got the call from the WSOP saying that with the commitments of the 2012 players alone, enough seats had been filled that the BIG ONE is a platinum bracelet event once again,” said Mille. “We are hard at work creating a unique new bracelet. It’s a wonderful event with the added benefit of giving back, something we strongly believe in.”

“I can’t wait to defend my title,” said 2012 champ Antonio Esfandiari. “The event was life-changing, but so was my trip to El Salvador after it with the ONE DROP organization to see first hand what a difference the money raised from this event can do for those in dire need of help.”

The $1 million buy-in for this event remains the largest ever in poker history. The event is rake free, with $111,111 of each buy-in taken out as a charitable donation to ONE DROP and $888,889 going directly into the prize pool.

“The inaugural event made history and I look forward to another historic moment again this June,” said event co-founder, ONE DROP Founder, and inaugural participant, Guy Laliberté. “The support from the poker community continues to be just incredible.”

“Amazingly I lost a million dollars in this event in 2012 but still had a great time,” said investor Bill Perkins. “Little do the others know, but that was all part of a plan to set them up for this year. I’m calling my shot now. I will win the 2014 BIG ONE for ONE DROP.”
