I know a few people (unknowns in poker) that Matusow was putting into tournaments just because they were broke and down on their luck.
A number of years ago, my parents were visiting Vegas during WSOP, and I was walking around with them and showing them the Rio. Mike Matusow spotted me, came up to us, and said to my parents, "Just want to let you know, this guy is a really great limit holdem player", which I thought was a really nice thing for him to do.
No doubt Mike Matusow has done a lot of stupid things, but I really think he's a decent person whose life is repeatedly derailed by addiction issues.

Always rooted for Mike, his book was a good (albeit light) read. Somewhere along the line people forgot that poker on TV was entertainment, Mike never did.
