It’s “pasttime” that people “wakeup” to misusing compound words in place of word phrases!!!

I may only be a trucker, but this headline today from a well-known online news outlet ground my gears:

“Miami could be underwater within 80 years, but rich people keep buying luxury waterfront homes — and local experts says there's a simple explanation for it”

Can you see the mistake in this sentence, the gross bastardization of the language with the increasing use of a compound word in place of a word phrase? Read this appalling liberal apologia to the corruption of our beloved American grammar heritage.

never in my life have I witnessed someone use passtime like that. the word you're thinking of is pastime, as in "baseball is america's pastime" and that's a legit word, knuckledick

the only real problem I have with illiterates is when they type "would of" "could of" "should of"

Only if someone “mumblesbadly” would I complain, because that would be an inappropriate use of a compound word, which usually is a noun or adjective, or if capitalized, even internally so, a proper noun...
