I find it real weird how on this topic, everyone is so critical of the President (for obvious reasons), but no-one can articulate a better policy. Like I have said 100 times before, I have no fucking clue what the Democratic parties policy line on immigration even is.
I believe the US should adopt an immigration policy roughly like that of Canada, but with numbers proportional to the US population. Talented people who will obviously add to the economy should be especially encouraged to apply. People already in the US on work visas and people with family already in the US should also be encouraged as these groups are statistically likely to be net contributors and not become an additional burden on public resources.
Undocumented people already in the US without serious criminal records or who were brought as children should not be deported.
I honestly don't care if a wall is built or not, but (1) it will not solve the problem and has to be part of a more comprehensive strategy, and (2) the people at the top who just got a massive tax cut they don't need and don't deserve should have to pony up for it.
