I see it has excellent reviews.
Trailer isn't very good. I had no clue what it's about or what was going on. I had to google it to learn about the plot.
Why do you think the movie will be controversial? Because DiCaprio's character has a black wife and kid? If that's the extent of it, that sort of outrage ended 50 years ago, unless you're in the KKK.
The real tough thing for DiCaprio must have been to pretend he was attracted to a woman his own age.
Your real life friend has shared his feelings publicly here many times on this, but Leo et al. being violent revolutionaries who blow up buildings, rescue immigrant detainees etc. Is likely to ruffle feathers.
It doesn't take a position, but nuance and Team Retard never jive, as evidenced by the meltdown around no shot of the flag on the moon in First Man.
this dude seems angry about a great pta movie
totally normal behavior
desertrunner doesn't care about the existence of interracial couples. What bothered him was the Hollywood/advertising industries feeling as if they had to artificially shove "diverse" couples down our throats.
desertrunner has mostly dated nonwhite chicks (by choice), so he's not one of those dudes who gets upset seeing a white person dating outside their race. He does it all the time himself.
I agree with him that there's a lot of token interracial/gay couples depicted now just for diversity's sake, and that's dumb. For example, in this movie, though I know little about it, I'm guessing there was no reason to have DiCaprio's character written to have a black wife and daughter, other than because some lib felt it was important to make some kind of small social statement with it.
What's idiotic is the fact that, aside from white supremacists, nobody gives a shit about interracial couples anymore. It's very common nowadays, so there's no reason to teach the plebes a lesson that it's okay. Maybe in the early '80s this would've carried some social value, but today it's just virtue signaling via writing.
It doesn't bother me, though. I don't care the race of DiCaprio's movie love interest. I'm sure the movie would be no better or worse with a white woman and white daughter cast. But I doubt it will really bother anyone in the GOP except maybe Nick Fuentes types, because that's just not an issue in 2025.
Druff you’ve become a caricature of yourself.
Where am I wrong?
Do you think the choice to make DiCaprio's wife/daughter in the movie black was done for plot reasons, or more likely for woke reasons?
As I said, I don't care about this issue, but at the same time can acknowledge it's dumb that Hollywood tries so hard to do stuff like this.
I agree it’s progressive, but just to be clear, your friend is completely in the camp you call the “Fuentes” camp.
Like you said, he dates an Asian, yet gets completely triggered by any commercial where it’s black/white. He is the very definition of triggered where he doesn’t want it in his face and displays obvious irritation.
So to act like it’s some fringe element, ok, but he in entrenched firmly in that fringe element.
He’s a white supremacist, which is highly amusing considering he isn’t white, but that’s who he is.
First of all the comment that no one gives a fuck about interracial couples anymore except someone in the KKK is absurd. Try living in the south and having that opinion. I’m guessing it’s not unique to the south either. The way that you say that as if it’s a fact is asinine.
Almost as asinine as having the opinion that there was no reason to have them be an interracial couple without seeing the movie. That’s the type of shit you use to be against and hate. Spouting off completely ignorant opinions as fact. This is further evidenced by the fact you said the real tough thing must’ve been DiCaprio having a love interest his own age when his “love” interest in the movie is 16 years younger than him. It makes you look foolish.
The reason I said you are a caricature of yourself isn’t due to whether you are right or wrong in your opinion as that’s irrelevant; it’s that having an opinion at all without the benefit of first seeing the movie is straight up retarded.
His love interest in the movie is almost 20 years younger than him in real life, but looks close to his age because she is ugly. I dont even really care if you want to pair up an attractive middle age white dude white a black woman. But at least make it an attractive one so it is believable. The actress that plays the daughter is very pretty and very believable she would be the love interest of an attractive white guy (or an attractive guy of any race).
He 100% would advocate privately to someone he knows that he disapproves of black male/white female relationships. He would deny it here. But the idea that he doesn’t care about JD Vance or himself or any other mixed race couple except the one that actually triggers him is transparent to anyone paying attention. I’d guess he got blown off for some brother at one point given his obvious hatred of black men. Not just I prefer to not be around them like most of us. He’s obsessed and can’t stop.
I’m quite familiar with Fuentes. I don’t agree with him on most issues, but I respect Fuentes more than desert runner. At least he owns his beliefs. Desert tries to act like he is spreading information and he’d 100% be an anti-Semite also if he wasn’t basically in love with Druff. He’s in perfect alignment with that wing of the right on every issue except that one.
Ok, so based solely on this thread and posts, I went and saw this movie today. Everyone should hold off on commenting until you see it as all of you are off here.
Over all- would give it a 7/10 as it was pretty original, realistic and really had some star cast. This might be the sleeper movie of 2025 as it delivered more than I expected. I will list some detailed random notes below, maybe possible spoilers.
- The movie moved me because parts of the story line are real today- Underground groups/railroad, immigration/ICE, politics, organizations, domestic terrorism, the military, local law enforcement, bank robbery, bounty hunter, firearms, car chase scene, homicide, old technology used in modern times (pay phones, old radios and pagers) to name a few. And it was down and dirty realistic and not the typical silly Hollywood style. They got it right this time.
- The whole mixed raced couples idea (dumb-ass BCR) doesnt apply to the main couple, not a factor at all. But the the topic came up later on as a swing factor towards the end. I wont say it here.
- The movie reminded me of a mash up of other films- Sound of Freedom 2023, Sicario 2 2015 and Taken 2008.
- Leonardo DiCaprio always bring the A game and did so here too. He's like Tom Cruise, doesn't disappoint. And his character was not married to the lead black female, they were just together as BF/GF.
- Sean Penn- His character was weird and the thing was, I dont think he was acting much, rather playing his real self. Same as when he did Mystic River in 2003, weird character. But I also might be off here because IF his character was too straight edge, then it would normal out the movie and that wouldnt work. So they needed that odd-ball factor, but it was creepy to me, so I guess well played. But if Druff sees this movie, he will totally agree with me and will post it here, guaranteed.
- Teyana Taylor (mother)- I dont realyl know her, but think she was perfect for her part, really good job.
- Chase Infiniti (daughter) - Dont know her either, but also played it perfect, good actress. I can tell she was well trained in firearms and tactics for this movie, really well done.
- Benicio del Toro- Pretty good, small part in this film.
- Kevin Tighe- I picked him out right away and surprised he made it into this film. You might remember him from the EMERGENCY! show, K9 and Road House. At 81, this should be his last film ever.
- Remember this thread- Movie sure to remind Druff of his youth…. , well that main female character; Alana Haim, played the perfect revolutionary/terrorist, but got sniped off about 1/3 of the way in the movie.
- Lots of real California scenes- The Otay Mesa border, bank robbery in Sacramento with real Sac City police cars and Highway 78.
- The federal and local law enforcement officers were realistic, not lame or cheesy, good job.
- The secret old rich white man group, I'm sure theyre out there in real life.
- Druff would like the old Motorola slim pagers used, old school base radios and the pay phones.
Again, not the typical Hollywood lameness in this movie. I was getting more on the edge of my seat as it went along. I suggest going to see it in the theater.
Would go see it again.
Druff gets the Jew discount and I now get the senior discount-

lol this guy just called a PTA movie lead by DiCaprio a sleeper movie.
:lol2
Leontardo is an old man so sleeper applies
Sleeper comment- Seems like this movie is an unknown ,regardless of Leo. So as people see it, it gets traction, it will wake up.
Sounds like a small thing, but I'm happy to hear they used real CA highway scenes.
It's a pet peeve of mine when they use stand-in roads/highways to represent elsewhere, especially if I know the highways being depicted.
For example, I despise when movies show people driving into Vegas on a 2-lane, non-divided highway. Anyone who has ever driven to Vegas knows that you come in via I-15 (or US-95), no matter which direction.
Anyway, if the right would have been upset about this film, we'd have heard about it already. So that's not happening.
I agree on all points and hope I reported back correctly. To me, the Highway 78 sign and scenes looked correct, but now I'm second guessing myself. During the car chase scene, I said- Looks like Sacramento and then we see the Sac City police cars. I also think the Otay Mesa scene looked real. The inside seemed pretty real.
I hope I was accurate here and have no corrections afterwards. :(
I kinda dont see that happening as their fight and revolution didnt go so deep on the film. Or atleast didnt seem deep to me. Seemed left winged some, but not so specific.Quote:

I guess I missed this part yesterday- Race or racism in the movie. For me, it was not a factor or a Hollywood agenda in the film as the whole plot was really about law enforcement trying to capture the underground bad guys and then specifically the daughter. Race and interracial relations was covered some with the lead female character, her side fling and the old man group. But I cant not call the move "woke" or left winged agenda and if you know me here, I would have for sure.
As I watched the movie, I was on the edge of my seat more and couldnt wait to come back here to do my review. Why- because the whole movie (to me) was not what we thought it was. As usual, I am probably wrong here, but just the way I saw it.
I hope Druff sees this movie.

So I still haven't seen this, but I heard someone talk about the plot, and without giving too much away, apparently the love interest (and daughter) being black actually figures into the plot, so it wasn't just a token character choice for wokeness. So that's good, I guess.
However, I was also told that the movie has a general anti-ICE message and it glorifies revolutionaries, which is lame. On the plus side, the person said to me that the movie was shot extremely well, and the acting/directing was excellent.
I disagree as it wasnt a hard push topic. Yes, the daughter is mixed white/black and it was an obvious value, but wasnt harped on during the movie.
I disagree and thought I addressed this in my review. There is NOT "a general anti-ICE message" in the film, they did raid the Otay Mesa facility in the beginning, but than that was it, wasnt the message in the movie. NO, they did not "glorifies revolutionaries" in the movie, but that was the whole plot as I explained earlier- There was a revolutionary organization in the whole movie that the gov wants to take down.Quote:

Main plot- The gov wants to take down the revolution group, French 75. The pursuit of the daughter and her real biological father were a secondary story, in my opinion.
In my opinion, I did not see a woke agenda in the movie, in fact, they make fun of some woke daughter's friends once detained. Yes, there is an obvious left sided flavor with the revolution group, but not a push. They have to tell a story and it was very realistic with the federal officers, cars, weapons, bank robbery, car chase, underground radio from a house, etc. You know me by now, if it was woke, liberal or too-Hollywood, I would have posted it here and slammed it. No, they told the story from a center line in my opinion and kept it very realistic and detailed all the way to the end. And I still say Sean Penn's character was a clown and Penn wasnt always acting, rather playing his real self, in my opinion.
Again, the young female actor playing the daughter was very highly trained in firearms and their usage, not woke in my opinion, just realism.
Druff- Your contact gave the general surface stuff, but didnt go deep like my review posted here. I suggest you go see the movie, its worth it.
This movie is going to be be playing again at a local theater. I am planning on going again and too bad Druff couldn't make it because he is on vampire time.
