im assuming you havent visited sf lately, apologies if im wrong somehow.
also nyc will never have the sort of homeless situation you see in those western states because the winter kills the homeless who dont flee it. this city just isnt wired for homeless people / tent cities / fent zombies in numbers.
Its going to be really bad.
Just imagine how much worse it's going to be when enough of the sane liberal generation dies off for the nose ring, pink haired, transgender crowd and their third world, communist imports to become the super majority of the Democrat party.
Does AI write Yahoo’s articles now?
Portland/SF/LA will never lose their crown.
Sonatine makes an excellent observation about drug use, homelessness and the weather - it can be likened to the pest problem found in the southwest too. Winter kill solves these problems
While yours and Sonatine’s points are valid, they willfully ignore the multitudes of other problems that come with far left leadership in cities that have winters orders of magnitude harsher than NYC. (Read: Minneapolis)
If I’m a business owner in NYC, I’m quaking in my boots, and the increased taxes are the least of the reasons.
My hope is that a Chicago-type situation develops, where the city council retains some semblance of common sense and can act as a bulwark against the absolute insanity that’s about to come out of the NYC mayor’s office.
Read some recent Chicago Tribune editorials. I would describe the Tribune as mainstream left editorially. The socialist mayor is literally attempting to bankrupt the city. His budget was recently voted down by the council literally 50-0, and his approval rating sits at 14%.
Good job, NYC!
Most of us here are old, and at least can remember the 80s and early 90s fairly well. Many here were adults during those years.
I've posted about this before, but it's worth repeating. Rudy Giuliani, despite his recent embarrassing follies (which I attribute to early senility), did a tremendous job in NYC once he took office in the mid-90s.
NYC was in a horrible state when Rudy took office in 1994. The city was a crime-ridden shithole, Times Square was a dangerous slum, Central Park was a no-go zone of drug use and muggings/rape, and the budget was in horrible shape. The prior mayor, David Dinkins, only made things worse. Some of the problems went back decades.
Rudy came in and fixed all of this. It also helped that Republican George Pataki came in a year later, upsetting Super Mario, and supported what Rudy was doing.
Within a relatively short time, the budget was balanced, Times Square was safe and vibrant, Central Park was a nice place to visit again (even at night!), and crime was on a steep trajectory downward.
That's an example of how a good mayor can rapidly improve things.
A horrible mayor can do the opposite. NYC forgot the lessons it learned from the 90s, and keeps shooting itself in the foot. DeBlasio was bad enough, but Mamdani will be worse. Eric Adams, for all his corruption and other faults, at least isn't a socialist lunatic. Half the time he makes some sense.
There's been a lot of focus on Mamdani's city-owned grocery store plan, which indeed will be full of fail, and is being compared to the days of empty shelves in '80s USSR. However, that's just a small taste of the problems which might occur when this guy is in charge.
Keep in mind that he's pro-Hamas and in fact is very close to the founders of a group which donated $12 million to Hamas.
I've always had a fascination with NYC from afar, since I almost grew up in that metro area. Had my parents not moved when I was 1, I would have grown up about the same distance from NYC as I ended up being from downtown LA. Many times I have wondered what my life would have been like if my parents never left northern NJ, and I grew up there. Part of me thinks I'd be at some shitty software job in the area, and married to an obnoxious east coast Jewish chick. Probably better that I left.
Been a while since I have been in NYC, so can't really comment. But I grew up outside of Philadelphia and went there last summer, I stayed at a Hilton property downtown. I was shocked, homleless women were literally shitting in the street, drug use was rampant, I am not talking about random crack use but needles. I wore sandals for like an hour and immediately switch to sneakers since there were used needles all over the place. I never felt unsafe, primarily because everyone on the street were completely strung out. Police did not give a shit, I guess I don't blame them I mean what are you going to do if someone is shooting up? I spoke to an Uber driver, he says his business was booming, but outside an airport run 90% of his drives were 4 or 5 blocks, people just did not want to walk given the plethora of homeless. I literally gave out like $20 in ones, just because I felt sorry for these fuckers. One guy I gave 2 bucks to, said he lost it all when he fell from a construction site on some black ice and screwed up his back. He started taking percocets, and a couple years later graduated to street grade heroin. Tough beat.
I currently have an apartment in NYC that my daughter lives in. I visit every other month and have been closely monitoring the situation with this Mayor.
Not only is he anti-semite Muslim, but he's a defund the police cunt - even more than Diblasio was. The city will be fucked. Look for more Pro Iran and Hamas terrorist riots on college campuses and street closures.
The only hope to avoid this if Cuomo runs as an independent or if someohow Curtis Sliwa can beat him (not likely). The city is fucked and the Gov won't do shit because she is just a tool of the far left. People with $$$$$ will go to Palm Beach and take their businesses and employees with them. The city will fail economically. All you will see is boarded up buildings. This is going to be really bad.
The inevitable outcome of this will be a good thing long term, again showing the results of the implementation of far left policies.
While the GOP will never win national elections in these states, the fear of turning the country into them helps carry the swing states. Normal middle class America doesn’t want their state to be the next CA, NY or OR.
As for those living in NY and don’t agree with this nonsense, the answer is simple, MOVE.
What are you guys talking about, Cuomo is a lock.
Polls are clearly used to manipulate rather than inform.
Mandini seems like a nice enough guy. His policies will be identical to cuomo.
There's a big dif in saying something and actually doing it.
to be totally honest i have no idea what changed, but someone somewhere pushed a button and suddenly its a city again.
also just so you know, an awful lot of us would love nothing more than whores and peep shows in times square and everything south of union square being a mad max situation because an awful lot of artists would love to get their hands on those lofts.
Just learned that his candidate supports the 9/11 terrorist.
Lets hope Mossad doesn't try something stupid,. My message to Mossad, don't do it.
No matter how elaborate the whole world will know it's you.
Your beliefs about Iran and Palestinians are based on extreme paranoia, delusion and lies.
Your extreme paranoia prevents you from seeing your neighbors and the world want equality and peaceful coexistence.
adams calling him a snake oil salesman is probably a 100% valid criticism.
tbh i dont really understand these numbers;
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GuQjV1va...jpg&name=large
id have bet for cuomo to win handily but clearly i underestimated how tarnished his brand was.
this is the end result of allowing anyone with a pulse the opportunity to vote.
HAH AH AHA AH AHAHAHAHAH

Isn't he the guy who wants do defund police and put homeless people in the subway. need more police not to defund them and substitute them for social workers
https://www.zohranfornyc.com/platform
plenty to raise eyebrows at on that list but i dont see anything about defunding police or homeless people in subways.
that said hoo nelly do i not care so i didnt spend much time looking.
cuomo winning as an independent seems perfectly reasonable once they end up in an actual debate.
the field is just total garbage in any case; https://www.cityandstateny.com/polit...r-2025/401994/
like at face value these seem sane and reasonable but i just dont know enough about how politics works to understand who might be able to keep this from being instated.
Zohran has a plan to bring down the cost-of-living through city-owned grocery stores, universal childcare, and other bold proposals, and he knows exactly how to pay for it, too. Zohran’s revenue plan will raise the corporate tax rate to match New Jersey’s 11.5%, bringing in $5 billion. And he will tax the wealthiest 1% of New Yorkers—those earning above $1 million annually—a flat 2% tax (right now city income tax rates are essentially the same whether you make $50,000 or $50 million). Zohran will also implement common-sense procurement reform, end senseless no-bid contracts, hire more tax auditors, and crack down on fine collection from corrupt landlords to raise an additional $1 billion.
I wish I bet on it. I thought Mamdami was going to win. Cuomo was completely trashed by the media and Dems once he was no longer useful, post-2020 election. He went from exalted hero to liability, due to the nursing home fiasco. They successfully kept the nursing home thing muted and relegated to right wing media during the 2020 election (a huge mistake by the GOP not to push harder, btw), but they knew it was going to eventually come back and bite them. So once Biden won, they exaggerated his sexual harassment follies (which were, at worst, minor), suddenly acknowledged the nursing home COVID shit, and threw him away.
Expecting him to resurrect in 2025 was bizarre.
Hey Gringo, you definitely failed Economics 101.
1) City owned grocery stores will not save people money and will actually cost $$$$$$ for the city to run. The quality will be poorer and the service even worse.
2) New York business owners will relocate to Palm Beach and face Zero state income tax. They will also relocate their businesses and employees to Florida. The net result will be a net loss of tax revenue for the city and state.
The net result will be mom and pop bodegas losing $$$ and closing, and the city and state will lose even more tax revenue. Also with he exodus of the wealthy and their respective businesses, restaurants and shops will lose revenue and close, causing even more tax revenue losses for the city and state.
Just look at every other jurisdiction that raised taxes without thinking about the consequences. The net result was net loss of tax revenue.
And with the defunding of police this Marxist champions, the exodus will continue. And people like me with second homes in the city will rethink things.

my nigga dot mother fuckin gif
This nigga is the towelhead Obama.
Keep doing this shit democrats love it.
He ain’t going to be mayor. The Jews will put a stop to it. It called Hymietown for a reason.
you know this guy is radical and really fucked up when even the Dems here have nothing good to say about him.... :)
Apparently plenty of Jews voted for him. Adams is the only hope, and honestly that looks like a good bet currently on polymarket. But I don't think it's reasonable to count out the guy that just won what would otherwise be the defacto election. There's always the possibility of something horrible being uncovered in further opposition research, but if not, he has already walked through everything they can throw at him - think B-Rabbit in 8 mile.
Great post from one of the Winklevoss twins, of all people...

"A lot of people have asked me if I will get involved in the NYC mayor race by supporting a candidate that can defeat Zohran Mamdani. TBH, I’m torn and undecided. Like every other city run by democrats, NYC is a broken kleptocracy. Taxes are astronomical and services are pathetic to nonexistent. Anarchy and socialism are the next logical steps in this story arc. It's what the people of NYC have been asking for for years and it looks like it's what they are about to get. Trying to fight against this tide seems like throwing good money after bad.
It appears things will have to get worse in NYC before they get better. The Zoomers and Millennials need a refresher on the outcome of Marxism and socialism. They are too young to remember the crack and crime epidemic and murder sprees of the late 80's and early 90's. The squeegee men, graffiti, mugging, lawlessness, chaos, and pandemonium. Streets that were too unsafe to walk alone at night or even during the day. Getting mugged on the way to and from school was not just a rite of passage, it was an inevitability.
The Wall Streeters, financiers, and hedge funders have been too busy working on their fishponds and climbing the rungs of polite society to remember to protect the system that allowed them to achieve their success in the first place and allowed New York City to once become the greatest city in the world. Not ruffling feathers was more important than questioning the ideological insanity being taught in the private schools and universities that they sent their kids to. All that mattered was fitting in and getting invited to the right dinner parties.
Now their kids are indoctrinated NPCs, always protesting and supporting the current thing. Like their parents, they too want to fit in. To do so, they unironically exchange bromides and platitudes on the benefits of socialism over rosé brunches in the West Village. Because their friends hate America and capitalism, they do too. It never dawns on them that their lifestyle and studio apartment that their parents subsidize are all made possible because of capitalism.
This delusional thinking was ingrained in them at an early age by institutions that were captured by insane ideology and left unchecked by their grossly negligent parents. Instead of providing their children with immunity from stupid and provably bad ideas that have only led to misery and death throughout history, these parents shrugged it off as kids will be kids.
Now these kids are adults who can vote, but are totally unequipped to do so. In many ways it’s not their fault. From their parents, they learned some combination of magical thinking, preference falsification, and an inability to stand up for anything greater than themselves. As a result, they never learned how to think critically or independently. They never learned the value of Western civilization so they don't understand why, or know how, to fight for it.
Sometimes the only way to learn something is to learn it the hard way. Sometimes the only way to learn the value of what you have is to lose it. If that’s the case, Marxism and socialism might just be what the doctor ordered."

Today there was a church burned down, it was in the west bank, and the IDF was behind it.
Two days ago there was a massive terror attack on a church in Syria.
In Ukraine you guys know what's happening to christians there.

It’s not that I disagree with him, but for all the talk about the broken blue cities, they still pay for all the poor red states. From SF to NYC to Chicago, they pay for the rest of the country. They are givers and those great red states are welfare queens. Those twins live in NYC and LA, and I doubt they are moving to Tulsa Oklahoma soon.
It is true, but it’s basically whining if you don’t move or get involved and back someone else.
He had shitty opponents and tbh, those way left liberals in the cities and kids who can afford to live there with good educations from private schools hate Israel so much right now that I thought he’d win too. If only out of spite. Which is kind of a move you see out of GOP voters normally. Voting against their own interest.
If I was running against him, that’s how I’d frame it. You can be as dumb as a GOP voter and vote against what’s best for you or vote for x
