I know a lot of people have an issue with McCarthy, and I sometimes do as well, but keep in mind that the last (better) budget attempt failed due to obstructionism by Gaetz and friends.

Its amazing to me that people are acting like this is even a small surprise.
Most of the republicans in the house ran on getting us back to some sort of fiscal responsibility. When he got the speakership he was told that a significant enough of his caucus ran on fiscal responsibility and that changes needed to be put forward.
The party doest want to kick the can down the road. Right wrong or indifferent the party members want to reign it in, to varying degrees, and to run on these changes in the next election. He basically Shit on any semblance of change and passed a short term deal in hopes it was the path of least resistance and that nobody would notice.
His getting rug pulled is quite literally the least surprising thing ever.
The interesting thing now is how the Dems react.
The true progressives are using this as an chance to dance on his grave.
The more savoy moderate democrats are slow to pile on. This is clearly a “the devil you know” situation. They may be smart to back him keeping the job because if they don't the right will be forced to give in to a trye conservative with similar rule stipulations that were put on McCarthy
