Peptic ulcers can definitely be fatal, although that's usually when they go untreated. You can be sure that Bruce has some doctors.
My guess is that he survives to tour another day.
i was always indifferent at best to bruce springsteen based on his music until i heard patti smith and him did some amazing work together and suddenly i noticed his hands in a lot of really great pies, so respect.
tine then youtubed pies for 6 hours
it got very very dark like he was down at supermarket reviews at the end by youtubers with 3k followers
and he was leaving comments and subscribing
The godmother of punk and Springsteen.
Like you, I too was always indifferent. I was instructed from an early age that Springsteen was important. I just never connected or couldn’t understand but respect anyway.
Patti Smith is beyond fascinating though.
Dunno if you ever heard this story about the creation of “Because the Night”. I offer this clip because it includes the cringeworthy Fallon. I know you have an appreciation for the perverse too.

I’m still indifferent on him. I think if I went to a live show I’d probably become a fan but the ticket would have to be virtually free.
HIS SISTER WAS RAD IN THE SLEEPAWAY CAMP SEQUELS.
I grew up in a tiny Elitist town in Central Jersey where he lived many years used to drive his Corvette Convertible around town
My father 90s worked in his home where we lived they redid the floors in the guesthouse.
Recently he got a DUI this summer riding his motorcycle off the National Park (Sandy Hook) lol
for those who dont know, before she made it, she lived at the chelsea with none other than robert mapplethorpe, who was really her first love. this was before he came out as gay but he was still doing photography, and if you look at old black and white pics of patti, youll find that more often than not they were taken by him.
I hate it when people say, so sad, but I never liked him anyway.
However, my douchebag or greatness scale leans to the left.
He is/was a jerk.

His discography is insane.
I take it all back. There is one song I cannot place but just throw a dart and you'll enjoy

For those who don't remember, the February 2021 Springsteen Jeep ad was panned for two different reasons (one of which was lampooned on Family Guy, as seen above).
First, he spent 2 minutes rambling about the country needing to "return to the middle", supposedly an uplifting message about ending political division. However, Springsteen is very left himself, so he's not a good one to be delivering that message. Even the commercial took some swipes at the right at the beginning, stating "fear has never been the best of who we are" -- a common left wing talking point that Republicans are the party of fear.
The whole thing was so phony. If you can't speak for 2 minutes without veiled attacks on the right, you can't preach a return to the middle (whatever that is).
Then his DUI came just weeks after that commercial aired, and this was extremely embarrassing for Jeep, which had depicted him driving around Kansas in one of their vehicles. They put the ad on private, and it's only accessible now because someone reposted it. Family Guy lampooned the DUI thing, showing Bruce crashing into the church depicted in the commercial.
Her mother was a Jehovahs Witness and she was trooped door-to-door as a kid.Quote:
“I have a very strong biblical background,” Smith once told Rolling Stone. “I studied the Bible quite a bit when I was young and continue to study it, independent of any religion, but I still study it.”
No kidding.
When she was little she was so moved by “The Diary of Ann Frank” that she contemplated becoming Jewish.
Yet as you point out her first love was Mapplethorpe.
Mapplethorpe of course went on to commit shock & awe with his photographs. I have this vague memory of a huge national outrage about one particular exhibit. You know the stories.
Didn’t the Hotel Chelsea just serve as Warhol’s student dorms?
Clive Davis plucks her out of the NYC underground. The first lyrics on the first track ever released were:
“Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine”

Now I must shamefully admit I recently bumped into Patti Smith after a long sabbatical with the opening theme to Daisy Jones and the Six. I paid for my sins with that Amazon series.
We had some tweener girls stay at the house and they introduced me to Daisy Jones. They had an encyclopedic about Fleetwood Mac and Patti Smith and it floored me. This was all 40 years ago. Phones, and the cycle of art, huh?
Never knew much about Springsteen but I did know he suffered his mental challenges. Maybe just garden variety depression - not sure. Not sure if there is such a thing either.
We all saw him burst forth bulked up and ripped one year. The ‘roids talk was inevitable. As I understood it the gym rat thing was a “get right” prompted by his new wife/girlfriend who was a phycial fitness trainer or something of that ilk. Get the body right - get the mind right.
Didn’t really know about the DUI but it fits the profile
This has turned into the ultimate joke thread......white bread pencil necked geeks waying in on their a.m histories

these artists were vilified from the start.
I must clarify, I see a lot of derision on this site. It's directed at
all things unusual. No different than the 60's

Your viewpoint has not won nor lost. Neither can happen
You can never rid your life of the unwanted. The unwanted is a part of life
There is no good if there is no bad. No pretty if no ugly.
Whatever side you align with you are in a dead lock. One cannot exist without the other.
There is no young without the old, no dumb without the smart. So beat your head in.
That's all you're doing
Let's go a little deeper. The war. Never imagine that the enemy considers themselves a such.
That's very important. What you may consider evil will be virtuous to the other side.
There is no ultimate winner. Never has been, never wil be. You take turns at best.
Night and day, spring-fall, off-on
Here is all I go by. Is someone hurting another? Is someone taking advantage of another?
That's pretty much it. I will ignore most everything else.
Bruce Springsteen is a 'Limousine Liberal' so of course PFA this Alt-Right/farrrr right-wing population would slam Bruce here

I remember an upset Bruce Springsteen Fan ranting about a bad BS Concert Bruce gave recently, hey, BS is his initials and he gave a bad BS Concert. Interesting. The Fan said something like,"I spent $400 for a BS Concert. BS was about an hour late which was already a bad sign right off the bat. BS performed his songs like an unenthused robot and was just phoning it in and going through the motions. There were no jokes, no banter, no nothing like that. At the end of the Concert, he didn't even thank his Fans, he just LEFT without saying a word. I am appalled and disappointed. I can't believe BS did this to us, his Fans. I'm not sure if I will EVER give BS a second chance after this."
I, Karen Nathan, myself was shocked that BS did that to his Fans, but in this thread it's been mentioned that BS has mental problems, which makes sense that he pulled that horrible Concert on his Fans. So I guess I can give him some slack if he has mental problems.
One interesting Bruce Springsteen fact is that the song "Born in the USA" became popular because it was wrongly believed to be a patriotic song.
This is partially because Bruce doesn't sing particularly clearly in this song (unlike others where it's very easy to understand him), so people would kind of tune out the lyrics and simply focus upon the memorable "Born in the USA... I was born in the USA" chorus.
To this day, it's still often used as background music for 4th of July celebrations, including in my own city.
In reality, it's a left-wing anthem protesting both the Vietnam war (about 8 years after it was over) and the treatment of troops after they came back. Bruce sings it from the point of view of a Vietnam vet who couldn't integrate into normal society and received no help from the government, while his brother was even less fortunate and died there. It also presents his brother's death as pointless ("They're [the Viet Cong] still there, he's all gone").
In reality, Springsteen did not fight in the Vietnam War, despite being born in 1949 (he failed the physical, due to a previous accident). He also didn't have a brother -- only two sisters, who are both still alive today.
I was only 12 at the time the song was released, so I was one of the stupid people who erroneously believed it to be a patriotic song. Someone told me in college that it wasn't, and to listen to the lyrics. I did so, and felt like a moron.
Another hit song critical of the Vietnam war was also a hit because people didn't listen to the message -- Paul Hardcastle's "19". Instead of focusing on the critical lyrics, everyone just paid attention to the catchy "N-n-n-n-n-nineteen... nineteen!" chorus.

yeah the chelsea was basically the galactic epicenter of NYCs counterculture arts scene.
my personal background with smith is funny; i dont honestly listen to her music because its just not culturally relevant to me but her tastes/influences/sphere of friends are just stone cold impeccable. like her pedigree is irrefutable. she wanted to be a rock and roll poet before it was cool and i dont think anyone did it better than her. i was never a big rock and roll guy or a big poetry guy so it just kinda bounced off me. lord knows id be cooler if that wasnt the case but here we are.
Once I saw this, I lost respect for Springsteen…

I don't mind when musicians or athletes are lefties. That's fine. Just don't throw it in my face or hit me over the head with it.
I realize some musicians like to incorporate their politics into their music itself. Fine. It's up to them how they want to create, and if politics is what inspires them, so be it. I probably won't be interested in it, though. What does irritate me is when a musician who gained wide audience fame for apolitical reasons suddenly goes woke and lectures everyone. The Dixie Chicks were a good example of this.
It also matters what space the musicians are part of. Rap music is expected to lean left, and is aimed mostly at a left-leaning audience. Country music -- at least over the past 30 years -- is expected to lean right, and is aimed mostly at a right-leaning audience. It doesn't bother me when a rapper puts out a song with left-infused lyrics, just like it doesn't bother me when someone like Jason Aldean releases a right-leaning country song.
But Springsteen is a different matter. Even though "Born in the USA" was an after-the-fact Vietnam War protest song, it wasn't obnoxiously left leaning. It was more lamenting the death and psychological toll from the Vietnam War, and the lack of support system for troops once they got back. Nothing presented in that song was particularly debatable. The rest of Springsteen's popular songs were more working class anthems, and not particularly political. That was the Bruce people came to know and love, especially in the '80s.
It disappointed many people in the later years, myself included, to see him turn into a left wing activist.
This is complete trash. Todd Witteles thinks some of the greatest artists of our time "suddenly go woke"
This may be the dumbest thing I've heard with regards to music and it's influence.
You a non artist, have no control over the artist. None, never nada.
You will never influence an artist. Whatever side they choose it has nothing to do with you.

Todd Witeless say this "I don't mind when musicians or athletes are lefties. That's fine. Just don't throw it in my face or hit me over the head with it."
As if he has/had any influence over anyone with real talent.
As if anyone with real talent would give a rat's ass about his autistic life?
It's extremely sad for someone to out themselves this way.
Insane.
pretty woke

About Paul Hardcastle's "19," song, it was so catchy that it was being played in Nightclubs. VH1 did something like,"Greatest One Hit Wonder Songs of all time," and 19 was in it..VH1 hosts talked about the irony of a song talking about soldiers in the Vietnam War being danced to in Nightclubs, although one of the lyrics clearly says something like,"The average age of a Soldier in the Vietnam War was only 19." People REALLY should listen to lyrics and not so much the catchy hooks, beats, tone, rhythm, melodies, etc. Sister Sister had an episode where Tia and Tamera were huge fans of a disrespectful, misogynistic, sexist, insulting Rapper named Cold Dog who had lyrics that suggested men should slap their girlfriends if the girlfriends don't want to have sex with them. "Baby says no, slap that ho! Was seriously a Cold Dog lyric. He also suggested men dump their "Skeezers," another insulting and derogatory word for women. Ray is shocked and disgusted and asks Tia and Tamera how they could listen to such rude and disrespectful rap such as Cold Dog. Tamera and Tia say they aren't listening to the LYRICS, they are listening to the music. Ray says the lyrics are the music. But what Tia and Tamera are listening to are the beat, the melody, the keys the tone, the rhythm, etc.
Springsteen is now got this bitch going that "the right is trying to stifle freedom of speech." Can you believe that? Springsteen is a cancel culture motherfucker. Standing on foreign soil running down his country. That two-faced bitch. I threw his music out of my vehicle yesterday.
Here's the difference between Bruce Springsteen and George Thorogood. In 2019 I saw George perform at Route 66 Casino just west of Albuquerque. When the show was over, all encores and everything, and they closed the curtain, we were all waiting to file out to the back. The lights went on, the Star Spangled Banner started playing, and George came thru the curtain by himself, no one around him, and walked the stage bending over and shaking hands with everyone standing there. Al this while the Star Spangled Banner played. No guessing where his heart was at.
Long live George Thorogood.
Fuck Bruce Springsteen.
Weird, I thought anything but standing and showing reverence during the national anthem was sacrosanct to Team Retard.
Even you, at minimum would expect you to hoist your fat ass up and show respect.
Walking around and shaking hands is extremely blasphemous and anti-American. What a faggot.
I'm from the same place Springsteen lives and owns a home on the Jersey Shore, decades now..
I've seen him riding in his Blue Corvette Convertible, with his arm hanging out often pretty hip. No one bothers the uber famous or rich where I'm from since, everyone's rich and famous kind of, whether its Wall St. famous, or the Big Screen. Its all over where I grew up (Rumson) a tiny little half square mile town in uber wealthy Central NJ, not far from NYC..
Bruce totally nailed it here, from 2021 to 2025, totally spot on accurate...
