Back when I first started playing online poker in 2003 on PokerPages(a site I was made aware of by Phil Hellmuth pimping it in his book "Play Poker Like the Pros"), I used to list every staring hand I was dealt & put an x besides all the hands I won & a double check beside hands I either flopped huge or would have if I had stayed in the hand. I actually thought I could analyze it to help figure out a winning strategy before I had even heard of poker tracking software. We all know this didn't help for that purpose but it did make me pay attention to what was happening at the table in hands that I had folded so, in that way, it was a good exercise for me.

Anyway, I'll never forget 1 tournament I played, I wasn't dealt a face card or a pocket pair for 44 straight hands. As it was happening I was like WTF, & just getting madder & madder. This was a great lesson for me because I rode out that run of bad starting hands & was just about to go on tilt before going on a heater & I actually won that tournament. It was only for these point thingys but you could take them & play cash/point tables & run them up then convert them to cash & play for real money which is what I eventually did & did very well at.

I had an even worse run of trash hands like this at the WSOP Main last year. Fortunately it wasn't on Day 4 or 5, and fortunately at was at the WSOP Main where the blinds move so slowly, and levels are 2 hours long.

This is why I hate turbos. If something like this happens at one of those, you're fucked.

Druff, do you feel online poker is 100% on the level?

Here is some food for thought. EA Sports has been caught with a patent called "Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment" (DDA). The premise of the patent is that when 2 players connect to their server to play against each other, the server gathers data from both players and rates their skill level. Once the server has determined each players skill level, it will "level the playing field" so that the worse player doesn't get frustrated and quit. They need players to not quit because they want them to purchase their player packs for their "Ultimate Team" modes where you purchase packs of virtual cards in hopes of getting virtual superstars to put onto your team (For example, you buy more packs hoping to "pull" a Ronaldo in FIFA so he can be on your team). EA Sports makes millions of dollars off of people buying these virtual cards. So they have gone to great lengths to artificially level the playing field between the highly skilled players and the casual players to increase their profit margins. This patent is extremely detailed and can be found online.

Here is an excerpt from the EA Sports DDA Patent:

"Another solution that may be used in some types of competitive video games , such as racing games , is to vary the ability of the user or the user ' s competitor based on the relationship between the user and the user ' s competitor . For example , supposing that the video game is a racing game , the user ' s car may be made faster when the user is doing poorly and may be made slower when the user is doing well . This solution may result in what is sometimes referred to as a “ rubber band effect . ”

So here is some food for thought; If video game companies are already using technology like this to artificially level the playing field between skilled and non-skilled players, Wouldn't it be likely that online poker sites, which are making an exponentially more amount of money, be doing something at least as advanced as this?

Poker can be a sweet or evil mistress. I really believe bovada has a good rng the runouts like that a7 hand are no doubt taxing.

I've played poker with friends for 30 years, but I've just started dabbling in on-line poker.

Anyway, one hand on Ignition tonight I had 77. Three players to the flop which is J 7 3 rainbow. Villain bets 2/3s pot, I shove, third person folds, and villain calls with AQo. Turn and river come 10 and K.

Luckily just micro stakes. I'd go higher if I had any success, but it's not looking good.

Wasn’t sure where to post this. I have seen Helmuth overbet jam flop with the nuts a few times on televised poker. Polk obviously did his homework, and makes the best fold I’ve seen on any show I can remember. The title spoils it already unfortunately, not me.

The host of the poker site has no reason to do include this, this is the game of poker in and of itself. The algorithm you're describing is naturally built into the game of poker. This is what makes poker the greatest gambling game on earth, it's the great equalizer. Bad players go on solid runs. The best players deal in small percentages and most go crazy over the variance along the way.
I have been playing low mid level multi-table tourney since Party Poker, I have cashed an extra 2-5k annually in extra income. This is a grind and my time could be utilized better to be honest, but my results have been accurate considering my skill level vs amount played.

I raised the flop, which is the smartest thing to do there because it can mean a shitload of things, and typically your opponent doesn't trust it. You'll even get called down with K high or worse sometimes, as they fear I have something like 97 with a club.

Obviously you hope they improve and then start pounding you. If you come out firing on the flop, another advantage is that they never give you credit for having flopped a monster, thinking that nobody would raise like that.

So I raised the flop, he called. He check/called turn, and check/called river. He had A high and the turn/riv were unexciting (no club, nothing likely to change much), so I got what I could.

In general, you don't slowplay in limit holdem. The only exceptions to this are when you suspect your opponent has absolute shit and will fold to aggression, or when you are in a multiway hand and you can get extra money by roping them all in on the turn, and then check-raising everyone. But the latter has loads of risk to it, such as the players checking behind on the turn, and such as letting people in with weird hands which can end up beating you, such as backdoor straight and flush draws.

Pot: $1185

River: 7s

BB checks. UTG bets. I raise. BB thinks awhile, and finally throws in the $120 to call. UTG calls.

Obviously I win with the nuts, but what did they have? BB had TT and turned middle set, whereas UTG had KK and flopped top set. Wow!!!

Obv BB flopped a set, He’s got KK or AA, maybe AK, but you’ve got an Ace, but even so, there’s zero chance we’re folding here for one bet. Query: If BB bets and UTG raises, do you call here knowing it might be 3 or 4 bets to see the turn? I’m probably folding here.

I'm folding the flop if UTG raised it. I'm sure he thought of that when his top set got cracked on the river for this massive pot.

This is one of several reasons why you shouldn't slowplay in limit holdem. There simply isn't enough after-the-flop value in doing so, and you also can often get more action by putting your raises on the flop, which mean much less than turn raises. People are much more willing to raise the turn than re-raise the turn, so you actually want to let them do the initial turn raise, which will occur more often if you pound it on the flop. (Also, many players stupidly think that nobody plays a big hand strong on the flop!)

I would have folded the river if I hit the ace. No chance that was good between two players going all those bets on the turn. River was a raise-or-fold situation for me, depending upon what fell.
