Approximately 238/773 return tomorrow, and approximately half will cash. I have a little below average chips. Did not play a single big pot with my second bullet. We return at 2pm. See you then. #pfa35
Had James Woods at my table. He was pretty low-key, and most people treated him just like any other dude at the table, aside from one young player asking for a selfie with him (which Woods granted).
The day started off okay, but I took an ugly beat and was abruptly sent to the rail.
Just as Level 3 was ending, I had 8400 in chips (we started with 7500), and we were playing Big O. I was on the button with A247J with 2 spades. Limped by 4 people , I decided to raise (I think to 300) both because I was in position and my hand was good. I planned to check behind if I missed the flop. Well, I didn't miss. Flop came Tc2s6s, giving me the nut flush draw, bottom pair, and the second best low draw. Checked to me, I bet 1k. 2 folds, then middle position (a young guy who was new to the table) reluctantly called, but seemed unhappy about it. Next guy went all in short for about 3k.
Middle position had basically the same stack as me -- very slightly covering me. I decided I'd prefer just to run it out with the shortstack, especially because middle position may lay down A3 with no other draw, and would definitely lay down A4-no-high-draw. I re-popped it all in. Middle position thought for a little while, then decided to call with 34678 no spades!
:wtf
So the guy had a straight draw and the the third low draw, and decided it was a good idea to call two all-ins with a flush draw out there.
Well, guess what? Turn 4c, river Ac, and suddenly I was left with only two pair and a live 7 low. The shortstack had some shit and would have been scooped by me. However, 34678 guy made a backdoor flush with clubs, and his 37 low was good.
So he scooped this massive pot -- something like 23k -- and I was out.
So sick.
However, not too long before busting, someone mentioned this was a singe re-entry event. I didn't know this. I played it last year, and that wasn't the case, so I didn't bother to check for a re-entry possibility this year.
This presented a problem for the package I sold. I only sold one bullet (believing that's all there was), and I had just used it. And time was of the essence! If I wanted to rebuy, I couldn't wait around to contact the various investors and see if they wanted a piece. (There'd also be no way I could reach them all, anyway.)
I asked the floorman how many people were left, and he approximated that about 85% of the field remained. This meant that rebuying with a 7500 stack wouldn't be a disadvantage (I'd be a little below average, but would start with 15% of the field already gone), so I decided I liked the tournament enough to do so.
Unfortuantely, the only way to do this was to take 100% of myself. While this is 100% ethical (because I already played the bullet for the investors, and got the money in good when I busted), I knew the optics wouldn't be the best. After all, if you bought a piece of me in this event, obviously it would be irritating to see me cash and yet you get nothing for it.
But buying all of myself for the second bullet was really the only way I could do it, so I elected to do it anyway.
BTW, when I mentioned on radio that I was considering NOT selling any pieces, this is the type of thing I was referring to. I hate having to worry about crap like this when I'm playing tournaments!
At the same time, I will concede that I should have read the schedule more carefully and known which events had rebuys/re-entries and which didn't, and I apologize for missing that detail on this one. Next year I'll definitely be more careful.
But of course, nobody got screwed in any way, since I did play out that first bullet, and simply didn't cash.
Anyway, I rebought, and got randomly drawn to a different table. I liked this new table for the most part. Nobody was particularly bad, but I had a good handle on it, and it matched up pretty well with my playstyle. I was doing especially well in the Limit O8 parts, as that's my strongest of the 3 games.
I ran my stack up to 19k without playing any big pots. Then I stagnated for a long time, and then I started to slowly slip. I was getting very card dead, especially in Big O, where it seemed every single hand was complete garbage.
Then I got moved to another table, and I wasn't at all happy with it. All of the players were good. This reminded me a lot of a table I got moved to during the Big Blind Ante $1500 NL event, and in fact one of the good players from that table also happened to be at this table. Nobody was giving anything away, and the game played very tight. The only way I was getting chips was if I was able to cooler someone.
I lost a limit O8 hand, and was down to 9k. Then I was down to 7500, but mercifully the table broke, and I got moved to a better one. I was as low as 5900, when I chased down a straight draw and 34 low against one opponent in limit O8 heads up, and hit it on the river to nearly double. Then the very next hand, I was in a 4-way pot, raised off the other two people to get the same guy heads up (I had position), and bet him off the turn without having to make my draw. All of a sudden I was up to 20k again, with only minutes to go. I ended up exactly there -- 20k on the nose, after playing two more pots and winning one.
226 out of 773 remain. 116 cash. Average is 25,650, so I'm right there, though a little below.
Here's the list of chip counts: http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/164...S-BY-CHIPS.pdf
Right now I'm 125th out of 226.
For unknown reasons, my table only has 5 people:
Viacheslav Zhukov STARY OSKOL, Russia, 9,400 Amazon / 452 / 1
Brendan Taylor PASADENA, CA, US 15,500 Amazon / 452 / 2
Todd Witteles LAS VEGAS, NV, US 20,000 Amazon / 452 / 3
Christina Lien San Diego, CA, US 17,850 Amazon / 452 / 5
Jason Stockfish Cleveland, OH, US 6,925 Amazon / 452 / 7
Even more surprising, I am the table chipleader!
This is a 7-handed event, and most other tables have 7 people. I do think this will be 6th table to break.
http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/164...TS-BY-SEAT.pdf
I will not be playing Event #34, the $1000 Double Stack NL, which began earlier today. I was going to enter flight B at 11am on Sunday, but that can't happen obviously. Unless I make Day 3, I will be playing the $1500 NL Holdem Event #37 on Monday at 11am.
This event restarts at 2pm.
