Will be interesting on how they handle rules on betting on the team in the city. I can only imagine the "hangover" angle for betting on away teams in Vegas (including the fact that half of the arena will be fans from public teams like NYR, BOS, etc traveling there).
Hockey in hot places is just stupid to me.

The reality is it is a tiny city population wise of about 600k with a "fanbase" that is starting from scratch. Where the fuck are these people coming from?

However, if you live in greater Toronto and good seats run 800 a piece, your random Canuck can fly to Vegas, get a hotel and tickets to the game for roughly 800 per.

Look at the money Bettman poured into Arizona to keep the Coyotes there. Somebody said that half their attendance is snowbirds for other teams. I'm guessing Bettman figures the same. I don't know how well their minor league team did for attendance playing at that Arena at the Orleans though but I cant imagine it was that great. I disagree about the NFL only because its the #1 sport and people can fly in for a game once a week if they cant for example get to see their home team play due to constant sellouts (IE AZ Cardinals, WAS Redskins) and having to pay a ton for scalper/resell tickets when they can fly to Vegas and see them on the road for less and oh yeah gamble it up some too.Quote:

Half of them are probably part time residents who are there to gamble. So are the others who live within an hour probably in the "metro area". It is a transient population, and a hockey team or any other sport draws from the people that actually live there, full time. have kids...etc. Not part timers who have a 2nd home there.

To be fair, the population in the Vegas area is not 600k.
Much of the area right by the strip is considered unincorporated Clark County!
The population in Vegas actually isn't very spread out. Barring awful traffic, anyone can get to the strip in 30 minutes or less.
Compare that to a place like greater Los Angeles, where some parts are more than 100 miles from others.
However, I think one problem with sports in Vegas is that relatively few people have roots in Vegas, and thus they are less likely to support a Vegas sports team.
Most Vegas residents are already fans of another team from where they previously lived.
I can see it now on the Billboard... "One night only Crosby and Malkin!!" Nhl will do great in vegas... it makes perfect sense if you really break it down. After all its just a big show guys... music, lights, action.. non sports fans will enjoy a night at the arena aswell.

vegas already pre sold 13/14k of the arenas 17k seats....i think NHL hockey will do fine here.
Vegas will do great with Hockey. I can see casinos giving out comps to box seats. If the casinos are backing this venture they will make it work.

And hockey is another reason for Ducks and LA Kings fans to drive up for a game and a good meal. Of course fans across North America can fly in, support their team, leave the snow and cold, have some fun. What's not to like? I'm very pleased that Vegas has a quality pro hockey team.
Going to Vegas in December and want to see the Golden Knights vs. Rangers on December 8. I'm finding that tickets on the secondary market are pretty expensive for a regular season game. Any tips on getting cheap seats? (or anyone want to sell me a pair of lower bowl seats)?
