I think the smaller ethnically homogeneous countries this works for. There is more sense of community and pride in helping out your fellow countrymen. We have too much white trash and other ethnic groups that will simply take advantage of an increased welfare state.

Druff was correct in his assessment last radio show. Bernie getting the nomination would be a gift for republicans. I cringe just thinking about what his ass would look like once the campaign ads start from the GOP. How will eliminating sweat shops overseas help those people? Most wealthy nations (including the USA)had sweat shops on their way up. It was and still is a necessary evil to attempt to pull yourself out of poverty. Take away the sweatshops and you fuck those people even more. You change the working standards in another country by simply taxing the products coming to US, if that's all you wanna do. I mean that's how it has been done for about 500 years. Say a company makes a product for US market and in effort to cut costs it moves the production out of US to a country with less regulations and cheaper labor. To make that practice non cost effective you just tariff the fuck out of them. That is if you want to keep jobs in America. Oh and if the company retaliates by selling their product at another market basically nobody cares. Their place will be filled in about 3 seconds. They need the market more than the market needs them.

Also i wouldn't be too worried about evil well fare freeloaders. It's almost impossible to find so many people that are willing to live on well fare instead of working to ever damage the threshold of natural unemployment. There's basically not a single country on earth where living on well fare is so sweet that people do it in masses when there's plenty of work around.

Why dont the Nordic countries do that then? China is many of these countries largest trade partner outside the EU. These are all countries Bernie wants to model after.

Nothing needs modeled. That's the point. It's already been done and proven in almost every country above us in the HDI.
